U.S. Agrees to Release Taliban Prisoners Because They Promise to Start a Peace Office

January 3, 2012 at 9:05 pm (Bridge in Brooklyn, Obama Administration, President Obama, Taliban, Terrorists, The Guardian)

We pinky swear!

This must be Winning The Future and can therefore be filed under WTF?!

The Guardian is reporting that the U.S. has agreed to release top-ranking officials from the Taliban in exchange for a promise to start peace negotiations.  Never mind that AK-47 behind the purple curtain.
I repeat – The Obama administration is releasing high-level terrorists caught on the battlefield, in exchange for a promise.
From the Guardian:

The US has agreed in principle to release high-ranking Taliban officials from Guantánamo Bay in return for the Afghan insurgents’ agreement to open a political office for peace negotiations in Qatar, the Guardian has learned.

According to sources familiar with the talks in the US and in Afghanistan, the handful of Taliban figures will include Mullah Khair Khowa, a former interior minister, and Noorullah Noori, a former governor in northern Afghanistan.

More controversially, the Taliban are demanding the release of the former army commander Mullah Fazl Akhund. Washington is reported to be considering formally handing him over to the custody of another country, possibly Qatar.

The releases would be to reciprocate for Tuesday’s announcement from the Taliban that they are prepared to open a political office in Qatar to conduct peace negotiations “with the international community” – the most significant political breakthrough in ten years of the Afghan conflict.

And here is the understatement of the year:

“To take this step, the [Obama] administration have to have sufficient confidence that the Taliban are going to reciprocate,” said Vali Nasr, who was an Obama administration adviser on the Afghan peace process until last year. “It is going to be really risky. Guantánamo is a very sensitive issue politically.”

You have to read it, to believe it…

Ravens Linebacker Suggs Mocks Tebow, "We Don’t Need God on Our Sidelines"

January 3, 2012 at 5:21 pm (Anti-Religion Bias, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, NFL, Prayer, Religion, Terell Suggs, Tim Tebow)

When did it become a horrible thing to believe in God?

Baltimore Ravens linebacker, Terrell Suggs, took an unprovoked shot at Denver Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow, earlier today. During an appearance on ESPN’s show, First Take, Suggs had this to say (via Yahoo! Sports):

“With all due respect we don’t need God on our sidelines,” Suggs said. “Once again God had to save Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. He couldn’t even give them two drives? Seven to three?”[Referring to the score Denver lost by on Sunday.]

The trash-talking was seemingly unnecessary, as Suggs and the Ravens have a bye this week, and likely will not face the Broncos in the playoffs.

Suggs personal rant against Tebow didn’t stop there.  He went on to claim he could put up better numbers than Tebow at quarterback.

From the Bleacher Report:

Suggs was interviewed by notorious instigator Skip Bayless on ESPN’s First Take and told the television personality that he could put up similar numbers to his “man crush” Tim Tebow if he were playing quarterback in Denver.

From their, the religion mocking continued:

Not only did Suggs attack Tebow’s production and call the 8-8 Broncos “mediocre,” but he said he and the Ravens don’t need to pray on the sideline to win football games or be bailed out by a kicker.

“He’s alright. He’s alright. Let’s be honest, Skip, I can put up the numbers he was [putting up],” he said. “It’s all about numbers, baby. Give me a shot. Let’s see what we can do, create my own offense and hopefully my kicker can nail a 62-yarder to bail me out a few times, Jesus shows up. … That boy be praying on the sidelines, boy. I don’t feel comfortable [if] I’ve got to pray every fourth quarter like, ‘Oh my God, please come save me again.’”

Slow News Day: Washington Post Article Defends Michelle Obama’s Backside

January 3, 2012 at 2:52 pm (Jim Sensenbrenner, Large Posterior, Laura Bush, Let's Move, Michelle Obama, Washington Post)

Is there really nothing else of importance going on in the world (h/t Weasel Zippers)?

From the Washington Post:

Can you imagine how the incident would play out if an African American congressman made a crude remark about First Lady Laura Bush’s body? It certainly would have taken more than an insincere apology to wash that sin away. That scenario never happened —hopefully because those congressmen were raised with a measure of common decency. I know that America’s first family – an image this country presents to the world — is traditionally granted a certain amount of respect across party lines.

They are of course referring to Wisconsin Republican congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, who was recently overheard criticizing Michelle Obama’s healthy eating initiative: “She lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself.”

Why would someone be so cruel as to insult the first lady?

Why they’re racist, of course!

Not only is this disrespect crude, it also proves yet again that you can’t go wrong disrespecting a black woman in the United States of America, even if she lives in the White House – and in some constituencies, especially if she lives in the White House. Sensenbrenner’s nasty rant made me sick and sad because it brings to the surface the ugly history of how black women are viewed in America, stereotyped and dehumanized, our bodies everyone’s business except our own.

The article then goes on to paint Sensenbrenner as some sort of psychotic stalker.

What in the world is Sensenbrenner doing staring at the First Lady –not as a person but as a specimen, each part an item on an anatomical checklist? He doesn’t approve of what he’s seeing but he can’t keep his eyes off of her. It’s creepy but unfortunately familiar, the way he devalues black beauty while being mesmerized by it.

I seriously doubt Sensenbrenner is ‘mesmerized’ by Michelle Obama’s backside.

Video: Occupy Leader Organizes Family-Friendly Event, Promptly Exposes Himself

January 3, 2012 at 12:17 pm (Democrats, Exposure, Gross, Occupy Portland, Public Nudity, Tea Party)

An event sponsored by Occupy Portland, called Occu-Fest, is described as a “Potluck Dinner: a family-friendly event with music and celebration for the entire city.”   The celebration came in the form of public nudity for the whole family.

Via Thoughts From a Conservative Mom:

Greetings from Occupy’s hindquarters! This full moon brought to you by Wade A. Varner, an organizer for “family friendly” Occupy Portland! Apparently a good many Oregon Democrats consider him a respectable citizen worthy of their collaboration.

If you and your kids happen to be Tea Partiers, Occupiers consider it “family friendly” to introduce you to their exposed genitals. Good food AND sexually explicit exhibitions for your kids’ educational benefit. What more can you ask from a “celebration for the entire city?”

Take away phrase here is that Democrats consider him a respectable citizen. When the Dems call every Republican a Tea Party Republican, why have they yet to respond by calling them an Occupy Democrat?

If the Democrats want to be associated with people who encourage nudity at family events, defecating on police cars, and general uncleanliness, then so be it.
