It was just last month that Obama Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter claimed that Mitt Romney is either a liar or a felon, insisting that he misrepresented his time spent at Bain Capital. Upon hearing the accusations, the Romney campaign insisted that the President issue an apology for the remarks.
Instead, the campaign has doubled down on the outrageous accusation, running an ad that attacks Romney for not releasing more tax returns, at one point flashing the words “felons” and “tax records” on the screen.
The Weekly Standard reports:
The latest web ad from Barack Obama’s campaign goes after Mitt Romney for not releasing more tax returns than he already has. The ad, titled “Mitt Romney’s Tax Returns: When Will He Come Clean?,” at one point flashes two words onscreen, “FELONS” and “TAX RECORDS.”
The words, “FELONS” and “TAX RECORDS,” are displayed onscreen for at least six seconds, so the Obama campaign wants to make sure its viewers see the words.
Given the title of the ad–and the subject–the ad wants viewers to consider that Mitt Romney might not be releasing more tax returns because, the Obama campaign is suggesting, he might be a felon.
Here’s the video…
Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is in Poland today, ready to deliver a foreign policy speech that will stress the United States long ties with the nation, and highlight his differences with President Barack Obama. The Romney campaign has provided excerpts of his speech to be delivered in Warsaw.
Highlights include a stark economic contrast not only between the Poland of decades ago and today, but of the economic policies preferred by President Obama, and those that would be implemented by a President Romney.
A move to economic liberty and smaller government can lead to prosperity … just “look to Poland”.
I began this trip in Britain and end it here in Poland: the two bookends of NATO, history’s greatest military alliance that has kept the peace for over half a century. While at 10 Downing Street I thought back to the days of Winston Churchill, the man who first spoke of the Iron Curtain that had descended across Europe. What an honor to stand in Poland, among the men and women who helped lift that curtain. After that stay in England, I visited the State of Israel – a friend of your country and mine. It’s been a trip to three places far apart on the map. But for an American, you can’t get much closer to the ideals and convictions of my own country. Our nations belong to the great fellowship of democracies. We speak the same language of freedom and justice. We uphold the right of every person to live in peace.I believe it is critical to stand by those who have stood by America. Solidarity was a great movement that freed a nation. And it is with solidarity that America and Poland face the future. In 1955, in my country, Rosa Parks said “no” to a bus driver who told her to give up her seat to a white person, and in doing so, started a revolution of dignity and equality that continues to this day. Mohamed Bouazizi, a street vendor in Tunisia, was denied his business wares by a government functionary, and in protest committed suicide by self-immolation. With that act of defiance, the Arab Spring was born.Nicolai Ceausescu stood before an audience of 200,000, recounting for them his supposed works on their behalf. One elderly woman shouted out what others only thought. “Liar,” she said. Others echoed her, first hundreds, then thousands. And with the fall of Ceausescu days later, the entire nation had awoken and a people were freed. And here, in 1979, a son of Poland, Pope John Paul the Second, spoke words that would bring down an empire and bring freedom to millions who lived in bondage. “Be not afraid” – those words changed the world.I, and my fellow Americans, are inspired by the path of freedom tread by the people of Poland.# # #At every turn in our history, through wars and crises, through every change in the geopolitical map, we have met as friends and allies. That was true in America’s Revolutionary War. It was true in the dark days of World War II. And it has been true in Iraq and Afghanistan. There has never been a moment when our peoples felt anything but mutual respect and good will – and that is not common in history.Americans watched with astonishment and admiration, as an electrician led a peaceful protest against a brutal and oppressive regime.“It has to be understood,” as President Walesa has recently said, “that the solidarity movement philosophy was very simple. When you can’t lift a weight, you ask someone else for help and to lift it with you.”John Paul the Second understood that a nation is not a flag or a plot of land. It is a people – a community of values. And the highest value Poland honors – to the world’s great fortune – is man’s innate desire to be free.Unfortunately, there are parts of the world today where the desire to be free is met with brutal oppression: Just to the east of here, the people of Belarus suffer under the oppressive weight of dictatorship. The Arab world is undergoing a historic upheaval, one that holds promise, but also risk and uncertainty. A ruthless dictator in Syria has killed thousands of his own people. In Latin America, Hugo Chavez leads a movement characterized by authoritarianism and repression. Nations in Africa are fighting to resist the threat of violent radical jihadism. And in Russia, once-promising advances toward a free and open society have faltered. In a turbulent world, Poland stands as an example and defender of freedom.# # #This is a country that made a prisoner a president … that went from foreign domination to the proud and independent nation you are today. And now, for both our nations, the challenge is to be worthy of this legacy as we find a way forward. The false gods of the all-powerful state claim the allegiance of a lonely few. It is for us, in this generation and beyond, to show all the world what free people and free economies can achieve for the good of all.# # #Perhaps because here in Poland centralized control is no distant memory, you have brought a special determination to securing a free and prosperous economy. When the Soviet Empire breathed its last, Poland’s economy was in a state of perpetual crisis. When economists analyzed it from abroad, one heard talk of the prospect of starvation in major cities. But from the depths of those dark times, this nation’s steady rise is a shining example of the prosperity that economic opportunity can bring. Your nation has moved from a state monopoly over the economy, price controls, and severe trade restrictions to a culture of entrepreneurship, greater fiscal responsibility, and international trade. As a result, your economy has experienced positive growth in each of the last twenty years. In that time, you have doubled the size of your economy. The private sector has gone from a mere 15 percent of the economy to 65 percent. And while other nations fell into recession in recent years, you weathered the storm and continued to flourish. The world should pay close attention to the transformation of Poland’s economy. A march toward economic liberty and smaller government has meant a march toward higher living standards, a strong military that defends liberty at home and abroad, and an important and growing role on the international stage.Rather than heeding the false promise of a government-dominated economy, Poland sought to stimulate innovation, attract investment, expand trade, and live within its means. Your success today is a reminder that the principles of free enterprise can propel an economy and transform a society. At a time of such difficulty and doubt throughout Europe, Poland’s economic transformation over these past 20 years is a fitting turn in the story of your country. In the 1980s, when other nations doubted that political tyranny could ever be faced down or overcome, the answer was, “Look to Poland.” And today, as some wonder about the way forward out of economic recession and fiscal crisis, the answer is to “Look to Poland” once again.
This is potentially fantastic news…
Two men who were previously HIV-positive, have been found to be free of the AIDS causing virus after receiving adult stem cell bone marrow transplants.
Researchers are already discussing the possibility that it could lead to a cure.
Video via Gateway Pundit:
Adult stem cells are responsible for another incredible scientific breakthrough.
On Thursday at the AIDS 2012 Conference in Washington, DC, researchers unveiled that two HIV-positive men have been found to be HIV-free following bone marrow transplants. Researchers believe giving bone marrow transplants, which by nature involve the use of adult stem cells, to patients undergoing anti-retroviral therapy could potentially cure the AIDS-causing virus.
“We expected HIV to vanish from the patients’ plasma, but it is surprising that we can’t find any traces of HIV in their cells,” said Dr. Timothy Henrich, one of the researchers studying the two men. “It suggests that under the cover of anti-retroviral therapy, the cells that repopulated the patient’s immune system appear to be protected from becoming re-infected with HIV.”
Only time will tell if the two men have been permanently cured of the virus. “Studies over time including biopsies of lymphatic tissue would be required,” said Dr. Michael Saag, an infectious disease expert from University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The breakthrough bears similarities to the case of Timothy Ray Brown, known as “the Berlin patient,” who says he continues to be cured of HIV after receiving a transplant of cells found to have a genetic mutations making them HIV-resistant.
This breakthrough is truly exciting, and was brought about by a procedure that is in contrast to embryonic stem cell research – a controversial technique which requires taking the life of a living human embryo.
Was there ever any doubt that Eric Holder’s Justice Department played a role in getting the charges against the New Black Panthers voter intimidation case dismissed?
From Beltway Confidential:
A federal court in Washington, DC, held today that political appointees appointed by President Obama did interfere with the Department of Justice’s prosecution of the New Black Panther Party.
The ruling came as part of a motion by the conservative legal watch dog group Judicial Watch, who had sued the DOJ in federal court to enforce a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents pertaining to the the New Black Panthers case. Judicial Watch had secured many previously unavailable documents through their suit against DOJ and were now suing for attorneys’ fees.
Obama’s DOJ had claimed Judicial Watch was not entitled to attorney’s fees since “none of the records produced in this litigation evidenced any political interference whatsoever in” how the DOJ handled the New Black Panther Party case. But United States District Court Judge Reggie Walton disagreed.
Human Events adds:
“The documents reveal that political appointees within DOJ were conferring about the status and resolution of the New Black Panther Party case in the days preceding the DOJ’s dismissal of claims in that case, which would appear to contradict Assistant Attorney General Perez’s testimony that political leadership was not involved in that decision.”
President Obama is a master of putting up smoke and mirrors in an effort to deflect attention away from himself and his record. He’s spent the last four years claiming that every economic problem his administration has faced was George Bush’s fault.
And now, he can’t even run on his own record, having to call Bill Clinton in from the bullpen to try and save his re-election bid.
Former President Bill Clinton is set to play a central part in the Democratic convention, aides said, and will formally place President Obama’s name into nomination by delivering a prime-time speech designed to present a forceful economic argument for why Mr. Obama deserves to win a second term.
The prominent role of Mr. Clinton, which is scheduled to be announced on Monday, signals an effort by the Obama campaign to pull out all the stops to rally Democrats when they gather for their party’s national convention in Charlotte, N.C. An even more important audience will be the voters across the country who will see the address carried by television networks.
“There isn’t anybody on the planet who has a greater perspective on not just the last four years, but the last two decades, than Bill Clinton,” David Axelrod, a top strategist to the Obama campaign, said in an interview on Sunday. “He can really articulate the choice that is before people.”
This isn’t a new tactic, as Obama has been invoking the economy under Clinton out on the campaign trail. Jake Tapper reports:
Faced with an stagnating economy and unemployment over 8 percent on his own watch, President Obama on the stump now invokes the economy during the era of former President Bill Clinton.
The president’s invocation of Clinton is part of his pitch to raise taxes on higher income brackets, as did President Clinton in 1993; and as a contrast to his current Republican opponents who seek to extend all the Bush-era tax rates, including those on the top wage-earners, which President Obama opposes.
Essentially, within this construct, President Obama is trying to cast the choice voters face as Bill Clinton versus George W. Bush, with Bill Clinton’s economy as his, and George W. Bush’s economy as Mitt Romney’s. Clinton’s economy saw the creation of tens of millions of jobs, an economic boom and a projected federal budget surplus.
The man has almost four full years under his belt, and he has to hearken back to the ’90s to try and sell his economic policies? If he were a job-seeker, President Obama would have the last four years erased from his resume if possible.
Anyone remember when Obama held a press conference and then immediately left everything to Clinton because he had to go to a Christmas Party?
The President is such an epic disaster that he is afraid to use himself as a selling point.
Obama is afraid of being Obama. And we’re afraid of another four years.
It’s glaringly apparent that the biggest nanny in the country, Mayor Bloomberg, will not rest until he is controlling every aspect of your life – from the cradle to the grave.
Now he’s targeting the cradle…
The nanny state is going after moms.
Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.
Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.
Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.
While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.
“If they put pressure on me, I would get annoyed,” said Lynn Sidnam, a Staten Island mother of two formula-fed girls, ages 4 months and 9 years. “It’s for me to choose.”
Not if the Nanny has any say.
Lovely. So not only will Mike Bloomberg and his merry band of statists play hide-the-bottle to force one to breastfeed, but those who don’t get with the program will be nagged until they do — “We know what’s best for your baby. You don’t. Why do you insist on a bottle? WHY DO YOU HATE YOUR BABY??”
That’s the essence of liberal fascism, of the nanny-state, of arrogant would-be Czars like Mike Bloomberg: there is no limit, no point at which they say they control enough. Every minute aspect of your life –how much salt you use, how much soda you drink, how you feed your baby– is subject to the state’s direction.
Every. Single. Bit.
Hands off our women’s breasts, Mr. Mayor.
Newsweek has hearkened back to their old school liberal days, replicating a cover story in 1987 which referred to then President George H. W. Bush’s “wimp factor”; except this time it was meant for Republican nominee Mitt Romney.
In 1987, we were asked by Newsweek to believe that a World War II Navy fighter pilot and former CIA head was too much of a “wimp” to be president. Today, the W-word seems very much at odds with the image that Obama had been attempting to paint of Romney as a Gordon Gekko-esque corporate raider. Additionally, the subtext of the article asks, “Is he just too insecure to be president?”
The Newsweek article, written by Michael Tomasky, makes the case:
He’s kind of lame, and he’s really … annoying. He keeps saying these … things, these incredibly off-key things. Then he apologizes immediately—with all the sincerity of a hostage. Or maybe he doesn’t: sometimes he whines about the subsequent attacks on him. But the one thing he never does? Man up, double down, take his lumps.
In 1987, this magazine created a famous hubbub by labeling George H.W. Bush a “wimp” on its cover. “The Wimp Factor.” Huge stir. And not entirely fair—the guy had been an aviator in the war, the big war, the good war, and he was even shot down out over the Pacific, cockpit drenched in smoke and fumes, at an age (20) when in most states he couldn’t even legally drink a beer. In hindsight, Poppy looks like Dirty Harry Callahan compared with Romney, who spent his war (Vietnam) in—ready?—Paris. Where he learned … French. Up to his eyeballs in deferments. Where Reagan saddled up a horse with the masculine name of El Alamein, Mitt saddles up something called Rafalca—except that he doesn’t even really do that, his wife does (dressage). And speaking of Ann—did you notice that she was the one driving the Jet Ski on their recent vacation, while Mitt rode on the back, hanging on, as Paul Begala put it to me last week, “like a helpless papoose”?
The ‘wimp’ attack is sure to make little headway as it did against President Bush back in ’87, since Newsweek isn’t even a fraction of the media powerhouse it once was.
And the Romney campaign isn’t sweating it either, with a spokesman telling the Mental Recession that it’s “not relevant, considering the source”.
The spokesman added, “No one but out of touch liberals care.”
The timing of the ‘wimp factor’ story for Newsweek couldn’t be any worse. The rest of the mainstream media has been referring to Romney as too tough on Iran during his weekend visit to Israel.
Reuters: Romney talks tough on Iran during visit to Israel
Miami Herald: In Israel, Romney talks tough against Iran
CNN: Romney talks tough on Iran
Los Angeles Times: Romney takes hard line on Iran in Israel speech
Not to mention as we reported here earlier, the Daily Caller has revealed that President Obama’s gusty call on Osama bin Laden proved to be anything but. The waffling on pulling the trigger could be considered … well … wimpy.
Perhaps Newsweek is also forgetting that this man is the one currently in office…
It was just over a year ago that Defense Secretary Robert Gates was hailing the President’s decision to raid the Osama bin Laden compound as a “gutsy call” and “one of the most courageous” he’s seen a president make.
Question: Is it still considered a ‘gutsy call’ if you avoided making the decision three times prior to finally pulling it off?
A campaign ad from team Obama previously questioned whether or not Mitt Romney would have the courage to make such a decision, but now it appears the President himself couldn’t pull the trigger on raiding the bin Laden compound on multiple occasions.
In a new book due to be released in August titled, Leading from Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors Who Decide for Him, author Richard Miniter reveals that President Obama may have called off the mission kill Osama bin Laden on three separate occasions.
Part of the book description on Amazon reads:
Obama delayed and canceled the mission to kill Osama bin Laden three times and then committed an intelligence blunder that allowed dozens of high-level members of al Qaeda to escape.
A new report from the Daily Caller cites a portion of the chapter in Leading From Behind which deals with the topic.
At the urging of Valerie Jarrett, President Barack Obama canceled the operation to kill Osama bin Laden on three separate occasions before finally approving the May 2, 2011 Navy SEAL mission, according to an explosive new book scheduled for release August 21. The Daily Caller has seen a portion of the chapter in which the stunning revelation appears…
… Richard Miniter writes that Obama cancelled the “kill” mission in January 2011, again in February, and a third time in March. Obama’s close adviser Valerie Jarrett persuaded him to hold off each time, according to the book.
Miniter, a two-time New York Times best-selling author, cites an unnamed source with Joint Special Operations Command who had direct knowledge of the operation and its planning. Obama administration officials also said after the raid that the president had delayed giving the order to kill the arch-terrorist the day before the operation was carried out, in what turned out to be his fourth moment of indecision.
Perhaps Obama doesn’t, as Joe Biden once claimed, possess “a backbone like a ramrod” after all.
Our video last week of Michelle Jenneke’s racy warm up routine was such a hit, we’re going to throw another bone to our younger single male audience…
This week’s Weekend Recess is an Olympic edition. She may have finished a distant 51st in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but Leryn Franco became an internet sensation, ranking only behind Michael Phelps among internet searches for Olympic athletes. Why?
It’s clear that the 30-year-old from Paraguay is popular for more than just her javelin-throwing technique.
A model and beauty pageant contestant, Franco has participated in the Miss Bikini Universe pageant, released her own calendar, and was the runner-up to Miss Universo Paraguay in 2006. She has brought a bit of glam to her sport as well, posing in heels with her javelin for a photo shoot and wearing earrings with bling during competition.
Franco has fared far better on the magazine and Internet hot lists than in international javelin competitions. She appeared in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and was most recently ranked No. 64 on AskMen.com’s “Top 99 Women” of 2012. She also made Maxim’s “Sexiest Women of the Olympics” list and has an endorsement contract with Nike.
Franco isn’t expected to compete for Olympic medals in 2012, though she has improved her personal numbers. Her personal best is 57.77 meters, a far cry from other javelinists (is that a word?) who have record tosses of 71+ meters.
Long shot or not, Franco promises to make quite an impression in London.
Obama Administration Ordering Release of Illegal Immigrants As Long As They SAY They Qualify For DREAM Act
A recent report from the Daily Caller highlights immigration officials claims that they are being forced to release illegal immigrants if they simply say they ‘went to high school’ or ‘have a GED’, requirements that would qualify them for the President’s new amnesty by executive order plan.
This is the equivalent of a police officer walking up to a bank robber and asking the person if they robbed the bank. If the thief says no, the police must release him.
It is a blatant compromise of national security, and I would love for somebody to explain how it does not also qualify as an impeachable offense.
The fact that President Obama granted amnesty to nearly 1 million illegal immigrants via an executive order was a stunning abuse of power in and of itself. The fact that a suspected illegal immigrant can now go free just by claiming they qualify for the President’s plan virtually extends that amnesty to many more law-breakers. And what are the odds that those who have no respect for the law of the land in the first place would simply lie in order to be released?
An excerpt from the Daily Caller report:
A top union official for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers said Thursday that President Barack Obama’s administration has ordered ICE agents to blindly — and without any evidence — believe illegal immigrants if they claim they qualify for Obama’s administrative DREAM Act.
Chris Crane, president of the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, explained at a press conference on Capitol Hill Thursday afternoon how the new selective immigration law enforcement policy Obama announced during a White House Rose Garden speech in June is affecting the officers he represents.
“As we still wait on detailed guidance from the administration, it’s impossible to understand the full scope of the administration’s changes, but what we’ve seen so far concerns us greatly,” Crane, said. “As one example, prosecutorial discretion for DREAMers is solely based on the individual’s claims. Our orders are: If an alien says they went to high school, then let them go. If they say they have a GED, then let them go.”
“Officers have been told that there is no burden for the alien to prove anything,” he continued. “Even with the greatly relaxed policies, the alien is not required to prove that they meet any of the new criteria.”
Under the new orders, however, illegals can escape federal charges simply by claiming — whether it’s the truth or not — that they meet the DREAM Act rule’s requirements issued by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
ICE agents have claimed the new guidelines amount to a free pass for illegal aliens. It condones law-breaking for those who are already law-breakers.
Also mentioned at the press conference was a specific example of the new rules at work.
One example used focused on last week’s El Paso, Texas incident where an illegal alien was arrested after he physically assaulted a family member, tried to keep that person from calling police and was subsequently arrested by an ICE agent who was then assaulted by the illegal alien himself before trying to flee arresting officers. Under the new DREAM Act, this man was released without charge because he was under 30 and said he went to high school in the U.S.
McCubbin and Crane further illustrate that agents do not need any proof that illegal aliens went to high school or received a GED- their word is good enough under President Obama’s new DREAMer policy.
The man physically assaulted a family member and an agent, and was released based on the fact that he said he went to high school?
Doug Ross summarizes, “Folks, we are seeing the civil society unravel right before our eyes.”
He added, “If we don’t stop this madness in November, we may well have lost the Republic.”
Unbelievable. It may already be lost…
