Racist Homophobes… Er… Black Pastors Tell Obama "We Will Not Stand With You" On Gay Marriage

August 1, 2012 at 1:49 pm (African-Americans, Black Pastors, CAAP, Coalition of African American Pastors, First Gay President, Gay Marriage, Marriage, One Man and One Woman, President Obama)

Surely if you saw a media report regarding people who oppose the President’s support for gay marriage, you would see white male racist Republicans.  For that is the only demographic which would dare oppose our first gay, African-American president.  Only outdated conservatives could still hold on to the belief that marriage should consist of one man and one woman.  Right?

Wrong.

CNS News:

The Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP) announced at the National Press Club on Tuesday that  the grassroots group – comprised of the more than 3,000 members – is a launching a national campaign to support marriage between one man and one woman and to oppose the Obama administration’s efforts to advance same-sex marriage.

“The time has come for a broad-based assault against the power that be that wants to change our culture to one of men marrying men and women marrying women,” CAAP President William Owens said at the press conference, held to announce the Marriage Mandate campaign, which includes a petition seeking 100,000 signatures pledging support for traditional marriage.

“Mr. President, I’m not going to stand with you, and there are thousands of others across this country that are not going to stand with you with this foolishness,” Owens said.

In a press release announcing the campaign, Owens encouraged black pastors and the black community to “withdraw their support for [Obama].”

Whoa… Isn’t this the exact same kind of speech that a Chicago councilman referred to as “hate speech“?

Who knew a coalition of black pastors could hold such hatred for a black President?  After all, any and all opposition to Obama has to be based on skin color, and not his policies.  That’s what we’ve been told for four years now.

One of the pastors suggested that Obama has been ignoring the black community “because he feels that he has us in his pocket.”  While this group and those they represent make a good point, they will continue to be taken for granted so long as they vote for Obama at a 90% clip, despite strong opposition to gay marriage and despite an economically disastrous 14.4% unemployment rate.

Voting for him based on skin color is just as bad as voting against him based on skin color.

Yid writes:

Whether this has an effect on the vote or not is not the issue.  The important thing about Rev. Owens is his attack on this President are obviously racially motivated and is one more example of how white people are uncomfortable with the color of Barack Obama’s skin. True the Reverend is also a person of color, but I am sure Cokie Roberts would say that George W. Bush did a Vulcan mind meld on the poor pastor and made him act racist.

Video: Mayor of London Gets Stuck on a Zip Wire

August 1, 2012 at 11:43 am (2012 Olympics, Boris Johnson, Funny, Funny Video, London, London Olympics, Mayor Boris Johnson, Union Flags, Victoria Park, Zip Line, Zip Wire)

Olympic celebrations took a turn for the worse this afternoon in London when mayor Boris Johnson attempted to gin up excitement by careening down a zip wire whilst waving a pair of Union flags.

Problem being, he never made it to the end of the line, instead dangling above the ground a good 20 meters shy of his destination.

Mr Johnson was featuring as a “special guest” in Victoria Park, London, to ride the zip line, donning a hard hat and two Union flags as he attempted to sail down.

Instead, he ground steadily to a halt on the wire about 20m from the end as the wire sagged, and was left dangling inelegantly in front of a watching crowd.

The Mayor spent around five minutes hanging from the drooping line as spectators took video footage and photographs of his misfortune.

When one asked how he was feeling, he replied “very, very well thank you”, before shouting: “Get me a rope, get me a ladder” to bystanders.

Best part of this video (seen below) is the woman asking “Is it a bird?  Is it a plane?…”

Mayor Bloomberg was seen shaking his head and saying, “Man, did that guy look ridiculous or what?”

Good News! NY Stops Unemployment Checks to Illegal Immigrants and Dead People

August 1, 2012 at 11:14 am (Dead People, Deceased, Illegal Immigrants, Labor Department, New York, Non-Working, Thomas DiNapoli, Unemployment, Working)

We’re starting to get a warm fuzzy feeling here again in New York State.  A sense of pride is being restored. It was just over a month ago that New York made it illegal once again to view child pornography.  (Yes, it had actually been legal, so long as the porn was not downloaded or printed).

And now state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has put a halt to unemployment checks being delivered to working people, illegal immigrants and the dead.

Good news, of course.  The bad news however, is that over $1 million in unqualified unemployment compensation has already been paid out.

Via the AP:

New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says he has stopped $1.4 million in unemployment checks written out to working people, illegal immigrants and the dead.

But DiNapoli says nearly $1 million in checks to people who didn’t qualify for unemployment checks has already been paid by the state.

The comptroller says among them are 91 recently hired state workers who owe the state $105,000 for overpayment of unemployment benefits.

After finding the errors, DiNapoli says he advised the state Labor Department to tighten its controls to make sure the critical aid gets only to New Yorkers who qualify.

DiNapoli says the Labor Department didn’t even seek to recover $383,000 in overpayments because a year had lapsed.

The Labor Department says it will tighten its controls.

DiNapoli also stated, “In these challenging fiscal times, state agencies must watch their spending closely.  Clearly that isn’t happening when payments are sent to deceased people.”

The report can be read here…

Almost makes you fall in love with New York all over again.

Romney Campaign Launches Rapid Response Efforts to Combat Biased Media

August 1, 2012 at 7:20 am (CNN, Kiss My Ass, Media Bias, Mitt Romney, New York Times, Polish Holy Site, Rapid Response, Rick Gorka, Romney Campaign, Romney Response, Romney Social Media, Shove It, Tumblr, Twitter)

You may have heard the news recently about a Romney spokesman telling reporters to “kiss my a**” and to “shove it”.  The aide, Rick Gorka, was responding to a disrespectful barrage of media questions at a Polish holy site.  What you probably won’t here about are the actual  litany of inane and biased questions from the media that drew Gorka’s ire.  Here is a sampling:

CNN: “Governor Romney are you concerned about some of the mishaps of your trip?

NYT: “Governor Romney do you have a statement for the Palestinians?

Washington Post: “What about your gaffes?

NYT: “Governor Romney do you feel that your gaffes have overshadowed your foreign trip?”

CNN: “Governor Romney just a few questions sir, you haven’t taken but three questions on this trip from the press!

Gorka: “Show some respect”

NYT: “We haven’t had another chance to ask a question…”

Gorka: “Kiss my ass. This is a Holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect.”

Acosta added: Moments later, Gorka told Jonathan Martin, a reporter for Politico, to “shove it.” About a half-hour later, the aide called reporters to apologize.

The news media would be crucified if they treated Barack Obama this way (they never would, of course.)

No doubt.  Has the media ever asked a question about Obama’s gaffes?  Ever?  Joe Biden commits two or three gaffes every time he exhales, and do they call him out on it?

In a direct response to this media bias, the Romney campaign has decided to fight back through the power of social media.  Last night we received this e-mail from the campaign:

The Romney campaign’s rapid response team is launching a new, branded twitter handle and tumblr page to fight the mainstream media and the Obama campaign’s distractions, and to get the facts straight.

Gov. Romney’s trip abroad is yet another reminder that the mainstream media is determined to create gaffes and slanted coverage of him and his campaign. While the national media continues to blow up non-stories and gin up non-controversies, online conservatives are inspired by the actual events going on the ground. As Gov. Romney pointed out this morning, it’s becoming clear the mainstream media are going to attempt to distract voters from the real issues of this election. We’re tired of it, and we’re going to strike back.

Tomorrow morning at 7 am, we will be launching our new twitter handle, @RomneyResponse, and its accompanying Tumblr site, RomneyResponse.tumblr.com.

Here’s a video clip of Romney responding to the media’s attacks…
