Donations Sought For Soldier, Husband, Father of Two Killed in Afghanistan

August 12, 2012 at 5:39 pm (#War, Afghanistan, Hero, Heroes, Kennedy's Angels, Killed In Action, Purple Heart, Taliban, Thomas Kennedy, Tommy Kennedy, West Point)

Thomas Kennedy was recently killed in action serving in Afghanistan.  He was a 35-year-old West Point grad who leaves behind a wife and two kids.

Via Journal News:

The news came mid-week that another suicide bombing in Afghanistan had stolen the lives of coalition troops in Afghanistan. It was soon discovered that New City native Maj. Thomas “TK” Kennedy was one of three Americans killed. His death came amid a week in which three other attacks were perpetrated upon coalition troops by those wearing Afghan military uniforms.

The losses underscore the peril faced by coalition troops, even as most international troops are set to depart in 2014, some 10 years after a U.S.-led invasion targeting Taliban rule and al-Qaida. According to the Associated Press, 30 coalition service members have been killed by those in Afghan uniform — either in disguise or among those who have been trained by coalition forces. It is a marked increase in such violence. Add to those losses the toll from ongoing attacks, like the one that killed Kennedy and his cohorts, by insurgents.

It is a reminder that every day, every hour, our military men and women continue to face grave risk, even as the war occupies less and less space in the national conversation. Their deaths are a deep loss to our nation, our community, and, most of all, the service members’ families. Maj. Kennedy leaves a wife, Kami, twins who turn 2 next month, his father, mother and brothers.

The 35-year-old West Point graduate was just three weeks into his first Afghanistan assignment, although he had completed tours in Iraq. He had earned dozens of medals and service medals — posthumously, a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.

The family is requesting donations in Tommy’s name to help support his two beautiful angels.

Sarah Palin: Focus on Obama’s Record of "Dismal Failure"

August 12, 2012 at 12:00 pm (Barack Obama, Dismal Failure, Economy, Facebook, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin)

Late last night, Sarah Palin took to Facebook, encouraging conservatives to unite behind the Romney/Ryan ticket.

She asked readers to focus on Barack Obama’s failed economic record, cautioned against the MSM enablers, and urged voters to unite not only behind the Republican presidential candidate, but other key congressional elections this November.

Sarah Palin:

“Barack Obama’s record is one of dismal failure, which is why he isn’t talking about it. He would rather spend his time demonizing his opponents. The simple fact remains that Mitt Romney is not responsible for the dire state of our economy or the corruption and incompetence of the current administration.

Over the next 86 days, Barack Obama will try to distract us from his record. Many in the media will roll along with him in this mission. We must not let them continue the deception and distractions, and we must not be afraid to call the President out on his lies. His entire record in office exposes the false promises he made four years ago.”

Flashback: Dems Claims That Ryan Would End Medicare Named "Lie of the Year"

August 12, 2012 at 10:03 am (Bill Nelson, David Axelrod, Democrats, End Medicare, Harry Reid, Julian Schreibman, Lie of the Year, Lying, Medicare, Paul Ryan, Paul Tonko, Politifact)

The question is, how do they sort through all of the lies coming out of the Democrat party during the course of an entire year?

The first line of attack against Paul Ryan out of the Democrat party has clearly been the claim that he wants to end Medicare.

Paul Tonko (D-NY):

Governor Romney’s pick of Congressman Paul Ryan confirms his commitment to the radical Republican budget. As the lead author of this extreme thinking, Paul Ryan proposed and Tea Party House Republicans passed a budget that would end the Medicare guarantee as we know it and shift costs onto the backs of seniors….

Julian Schreibman (running against Chris Gibson):

Congressman Chris Gibson’s embrace of that agenda – including supporting Ryan’s budget plan to end Medicare as we know it …

Bill Nelson (D-FL):

Romney VP pick bad for seniors. Signals an end to Medicare as we know it.

David Axelrod (Obama adviser on lying):

President Barack Obama’s senior campaign adviser David Axelrod says the Medicare changes supported by Rep. Paul Ryan, the likely Republican vice presidential candidate, would put the popular health-care plan for the elderly in “a death spiral.”

Harry Reid (Senate Majority Leader on lying):

By picking Rep. Paul Ryan, Gov. Romney has doubled down on his commitment to gut Social Security & end Medicare as we know it.

The problem with these claims is that they’re simply untrue.  Left-leaning Politifact even had to squash the Democrat claims back in 2011, naming it the biggest “lie of the year” (h/t Weasel Zippers).

Republicans muscled a budget through the House of Representatives in April that they said would take an important step toward reducing the federal deficit. Introduced by U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the plan kept Medicare intact for people 55 or older, but dramatically changed the program for everyone else by privatizing it and providing government subsidies.

Democrats pounced. Just four days after the party-line vote, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a Web ad that said seniors will have to pay $12,500 more for health care “because Republicans voted to end Medicare.”

Rep. Steve Israel of New York, head of the DCCC, appeared on cable news shows and declared that Republicans voted to “terminate Medicare.” A Web video from the Agenda Project, a liberal group, said the plan would leave the country “without Medicare” and showed a Ryan look-alike pushing an old woman in a wheelchair off a cliff. And just last month, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent a fundraising appeal that said: “House Republicans’ vote to end Medicare is a shameful act of betrayal.”

After two years of being pounded by Republicans with often false charges about the 2010 health care law, the Democrats were turning the tables.

PolitiFact debunked the Medicare charge in nine separate fact-checks rated False or Pants on Fire, most often in attacks leveled against Republican House members.

Now, PolitiFact has chosen the Democrats’ claim as the 2011 Lie of the Year.

In fact, if you click on the Poltifact article you’ll see nine different ways the Democrats have made the same claim laid out on the right side of the page.  Each claim that Ryan’s plan would “end Medicare” has been labeled as false, or with the more subtle “pants on fire”.

Here’s video of Paul Ryan actually explaining his plan for Medicare (h/t Twitchy):

Weekend Recess: Is This an NBC Olympic Video, or an Adult Film Preview?

August 12, 2012 at 12:54 am (2012 Olympics, Athletes, London Olympics, NBC, Sexy, Sports, Women)

A producer at NBC recently decided to make a video called “Bodies in Motion”, showing off Olympic athlete’s bodies in various states of competition.  Unfortunatley, the music production department chimed in, adding uber-creepy porn-like music to the clip.

Critics slammed the network for what seemed like the blatant sexualization of athletes competing for Olympic gold.

NBC promptly pulled the video, but left us wondering – What were they thinking?

Via LiveLeak:

Someone at NBC Apparently Approved This Creepy, Porny Video of Female Olympians.

Have you barfed yet today? Get thee to a drain of some kind before watching this video the pervs over at NBC have put together in order to show their appreciation for Olympic bodies of the 2012 London Games.

Unfortunately, to NBC, showcasing the “Bodies in Motion” of the XXX Olympiad means taking footage of conventionally attractive female athletes competing in sports that require them to be scantily clad, slowing it way down as the camera lovingly caresses their butts, breasts, and bouncing ponytails, and playing some soft core porn music over it.
