New York GOP Greets President Obama … With a Cold Dose of Reality

August 22, 2012 at 9:58 pm (Carmelo Anthony, Ed Cox, Michael Jordan, Mitt Romney, New York, Patrick Ewing, President Clinton, President Obama, Unemployment, Welfare Reform)

Today New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox released the following statement regarding President Obama’s latest celebrity fueled fundraiser:

“Once again, we’re happy to welcome President Obama back to New York, where unemployment in both New York City (9.6%) and New York State (8.9%) remains above the national average, for yet another swank, star-studded fundraiser for his reelection campaign.

“While President Obama spends his day shooting hoops with Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, and Carmelo Anthony, his administration continues to throw bricks when it comes to job creation and economic growth.

“Today also marks the 16th anniversary of President Clinton signing bipartisan “welfare to work” requirements into law, which Obama unilaterally dismantled last month.  Welfare reform demonstrated that government policies can best help those in need by promoting work and personal responsibility over government dependence.

“In one fell swoop, Obama undermined one of the most celebrated bipartisan achievements of the 1990s in an election year handout to his liberal base.

“It’s an insult to Americans on welfare who are looking for an opportunity to build better lives for themselves and a kick in the gut to the millions of hard-working middle-class taxpayers struggling in today’s economy – working more for less but always preferring self-sufficiency to a government handout.

“Mitt Romney has promised to rescind Obama’s executive action and make clear that work requirements are not optional.

“Governor Romney’s plan for a stronger middle class will rely on the hard work and ingenuity of the American people – not more directives and dollars from Washington.”

Liberals Looking For Donations to "Overcome Pennsylvania’s Voter ID Law", Meanwhile Photo ID’s Can be Obtained For Free

August 22, 2012 at 4:37 pm (Chris Bowers, Daily Kos, DMV, Jim Crow, PennDOT, Pennsylvania, Photo ID, Poor, Voter Fraud, Voter ID)

An e-mail from Daily Kos Campaign Manager, Chris Bowers announces ‘big news’ regarding voter ID laws in Pennsylvania.  Bowers explains:

A huge coalition of 100+ labor and civil rights groups has come together to do the door knocking, phone banking and voter education necessary to make sure everyone in this must-win swing state can still cast a ballot.

At Daily Kos, we’re helping out by running online ads in Pennsylvania to sign up more than 1,000 volunteers so that this coalition has the people power it needs. Please, click here to contribute $3 to Daily Kos so that we can sign up the thousands of volunteers needed to overcome Pennsylvania’s voter ID law.

First off, if you live in Pennsylvania, please put your money back in your pocket.  Instead of attempting to ‘overcome’ a law, put forth the effort to actually follow said law.

Second, why not sign up an army of volunteers to assist the citizens of Pennsylvania in obtaining their photo ID, as opposed to fighting a law that requires it?

Third, instead of donating $3 to the Daily Kos to fight an alleged effort at voter suppression, I’d like to offer better advice on how to fight that suppression … and it’s free.

Here it is – head down to your local DMV in Pennsylvania and obtain your very own photo ID for voting purposes.  It is of no cost to you, and the turnaround time for obtaining such ID is estimated at 10 days.  This gives one plenty of time to receive their ID to use legally in the November elections.

Voila!  No more suppression.  (If you still fill the need to donate, please consider a contribution to the Mental Recession as a show of appreciation for such sound advice).

The entire process is outlined on the PennDOT DMV website, which concludes with the following statement:

“… to receive your free photo ID for voting purposes. This verification process will take about ten days and does not require the payment of a fee.”

Claiming that a law requiring a person to prove the legality of their vote is voter suppression, is akin to calling laws against bank robbery a form of financial suppression.

The folks over at the Daily Kos and other liberals in general have long complained that the concept of a voter ID law would disenfranchise the poor.  For example, this entry cites statements from an advocacy group that claim the Pennsylvania voter ID law hearkens back to the ‘Jim Crow’ era, and would ‘keep the working poor … away from the polls’.

What better way to come to the rescue of the working poor than by asking them for money, as opposed to showing voters how to comply with the law for free?

Fast and Furious Official Given Extended Paid Leave While Earning Six Figures at Financial Services Company

August 22, 2012 at 11:08 am (ATF, Bill McMahon, Brian Terry, Chuck Grassley, Darrell Issa, Eric Holder, Fast and Furious, Gun Smuggling, Justice Department, Mexico, President Obama, William McMahon)

In what can only be described as a curious arrangement, a senior official at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a man who has been singled out as a top official involved in the gun-running scandal known as Fast and Furious, has been earning paid leave from the bureau while simultaneously drawing an additional six figure salary with a major financial services company.

Bill McMahon was one of five officials named in an indictment that charged him with extensive involvement in the leadership failures of Operation Fast and Furious.  The indictment specifically accused McMahon of giving false Congressional testimony.  An additional report indicated that McMahon knew there were no safeguards in place to prevent a large number of guns from getting across the border, but he still made no effort to stop it.

Now however, two Republican lawmakers are demanding answers as to how McMahon can remain on paid leave while earning another six-figure salary working full time for the investment bank J.P. Morgan.  Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) have penned a letter to the Department of Justice asking how such an arrangement could be approved.

“Under any reading of the relevant personnel regulations, it appears that ATF management was under no obligation to approve this sort of arrangement,” wrote Issa and Grassley. “Given McMahon’s outsized role in the Fast and Furious scandal, the decision to approve an extended annual leave arrangement in order to attain pension eligibility and facilitate full-time, outside employment while still collecting a full-time salary at ATF raises a host of questions about both the propriety of the arrangement and the judgment of ATF management.”

The letter continues: “ATF has essentially facilitated McMahon’s early retirement and ability to double dip for nearly half a year by receiving two full-time paychecks—one from the taxpayer and one from the private sector.  Moreover, ATF did not wait for the Office of Inspector General to complete its report on Fast and Furious before approving the arrangement.  This is in sharp contrast to the posture the agency has taken with whistleblowers like Special Agent John Dodson, who is told he must wait until the Inspector General’s report is complete before the agency will even consider his simple request for a statement retracting the false statements made about him by agency leadership.”

The full text of the letter can be found here…

To this date, nobody has been punished for a botched and possibly illegal gun-smuggling operation that resulted in the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, as well as countless Mexican citizens.

This report simply indicates that the Justice Department not only feels they have nothing to answer to (a mindset facilitated by Eric Holder’s contempt of Congress and the President’s utilization of Executive Privilege), but that they are actually willing to reward those who were directly involved in the operation.

The Justice Department, Eric Holder, and the President continue to dance on the graves of those that their incompetence and corruption killed.

Obama Admin Gave Half-a-Million in Stimulus Funding to MSNBC For Green Jobs Ads

August 22, 2012 at 8:10 am (Economy, Green Jobs, Jobs, Keith Olbermann, Liberals, Main Stream Media, MSNBC, Rachel Maddow, Stimulus, Waste)

A new report indicates that the Obama administration handed over half-a-million dollars to their media partners at MSNBC in 2009.

The funds were part of the taxpayer funded stimulus, and served to run commercials during the Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann shows, meant to recruit young liberals for the President’s failed ‘green jobs’ program.

Via the Washington Times (h/t Gateway Pundit):

The Labor Department paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal stimulus funds to a public relations firm to run more than 100 commercials touting the Obama administration’s “green training” job efforts on two MSNBC cable shows, records show.

The commercials ran on MSNBC on shows hosted by Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann in 2009, but the contract didn’t report any jobs created, according to records reviewed recently by The Washington Times.

Spending reports under the federal Recovery Act show $495,000 paid to McNeely Pigott & Fox Public Relations LLC, which the Labor Department hired to raise awareness “among employers and influencers about the [Job Corps] program’s existing and new training initiatives in high growth and environmentally friendly career areas” as well as spreading the word to prospective Job Corps enrollees.

The administration claims that the decision had nothing to do with politics, but it certainly blurs the line of distinction between the main stream media and government.  Is it any wonder Rush refers to it as the “State-run media”?
