Romney: "Attack on American Individuals and Embassies is Outrageous, It’s Disgusting"

September 12, 2012 at 12:21 pm (America, Arab Spring, Arab Winter, Christopher Stevens, Egypt, Leadership, Libya, Mitt Romney, Terrorism)

Mitt Romney delivered the following remarks on yesterday’s attacks on American diplomatic missions in Egypt and Libya:

“Americans woke up this morning with tragic news and felt heavy hearts as they considered that individuals who have served in our diplomatic corps were brutally murdered across the world. This attack on American individuals and embassies is outrageous, it’s disgusting. It breaks the hearts of all of us who think of these people who have served, during their lives, the cause of freedom, and justice and honor. We mourn their loss and join together in prayer that the spirit of the Almighty might comfort the families of those who have been so brutally slain.

“Four diplomats lost their life, including the U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, in the attack on our embassy at Benghazi, Libya. And, of course, with these words, I extend my condolences to the grieving loved ones, who have left behind, as a result of these who have lost their lives in the service of our nation, and I know that the people across America are grateful for their service and we mourn their sacrifice.

“America will not tolerate attacks against our citizens and against our embassies. We will defend also our constitutional rights of speech and assembly and religion. We have confidence in our cause in America. We respect our Constitution. We stand for the principles our Constitution protects. We encourage other nations to understand and respect the principles of our Constitution because we recognize that these principles are the ultimate source of freedom for individuals around the world.

“I also believe the Administration was wrong to stand by a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in Egypt instead of condemning their actions. It’s never too early for the United States Government to condemn attacks on Americans, and to defend our values. The White House distanced itself last night from the statement, saying it wasn’t ‘cleared by Washington.’ That reflects the mixed signals they’re sending to the world.

“The attacks in Libya and Egypt underscore that the world remains a dangerous place and that American leadership is still sorely needed. In the face of this violence, America cannot shrink from the responsibility to lead. American leadership is necessary to ensure that events in the region don’t spin out of control. We cannot hesitate to use our influence in the region to support those who share our values and our interests. Over the last several years, we have stood witness to an Arab Spring that presents an opportunity for a more peaceful and prosperous region, but also poses the potential for peril, if the forces of extremism and violence are allowed to control the course of events.

“We must strive to ensure that the Arab Spring does not become an Arab Winter.”

Independence Day Video: What Does Freedom Mean to You?

July 4, 2012 at 12:36 pm (4th of July, America, Concerned Veterans For America, Fourth of July, Freedom, Independence Day, United States, Veterans)

From the offices of Concerned Veterans For America:

In honor of Wednesday’s July 4th holiday marking the anniversary of our nation’s independence, Concerned Veterans for America has prepared the following web video that celebrates freedom and asks the question what does freedom mean to you?

This video should be reminder to all of us that Independence Day is much more than fireworks, cookouts and a day off from work. It’s a commemoration of the things that make our nation great, and the values we hold in common.

Video: Heroes Don’t Seek Credit

May 3, 2012 at 7:00 am (America, Bin Laden Anniversary, Hero, Osama Bin laden, President Obama, Spike the Football)

More veterans reactions to Obama’s ‘I Killed Bin Laden Tour’.

It is clear that the man who once refused to ‘spike the football’ on the bin Laden killing, is now doing an endzone celebration in an attempt to divert America’s eyes away from the economy, away from the debt, and away from his failures as a President.

Worse, Obama is taking an event that should galvanize the nation in their pride, an event that demonstrates our military’s strength and resolve in avenging the tragedy of 9/11, and making it all about him.

But that’s what narcissists do.

Heroes on the other hand?  Well, just watch…

Watch – If I Wanted America to Fail

April 25, 2012 at 9:22 am (America, Earth Day, Economy, Energy, Free, Government, If I Wanted America to Fail, Market, Politics, President Obama)

The following video has gone viral for a reason.  It is subtle evidence that the President’s energy policy is setting America up to fail.

Watch it.

Via Michelle Malkin (h/t All-American Blogger):

This weekend, a video produced by Free Market America went live on YouTube — and it is racking up nationwide hits. Deservedly so. The Earth Day-timed message is compelling and extremely relevant this campaign season. As the group writes: “The environmental agenda has been infected by extremism — it’s become an economic suicide pact. And we’re here to challenge it.”

Flags Flown at Half-Staff for Staff Sergeant William R. Wilson III

April 2, 2012 at 11:01 am (Afghanistan, America, Flags, Governor Cuomo, Heroes, New York)

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Monday, April 2, in honor of a New York soldier who died in Afghanistan on March 26.

Staff Sergeant William R. Wilson III died in Paktika province as a result of wounds from small arms fire. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment of the 172nd Infantry Brigade, based in Grafenwoehr, Germany. Staff Sergeant Wilson was from Getzville, Erie County.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and fellow soldiers of Staff Sergeant Wilson,” Governor Cuomo said. “We will always be grateful for the service and dedication of this New York soldier.”

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state’s service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.

MyFoxNY reports:

The International Security Assistance Force said an apparent Afghan police officer shot and killed Wilson at a security checkpoint.

Obama Lovers Can’t Seem to Grasp Basic Flag Etiquette

March 14, 2012 at 4:19 pm (America, Democrats, Etiquette, Flag, Florida, Lake County, Nancy Hulbert, President Obama, Republicans, United States)

A flag flying outside Democrat headquarters in Lake County, Florida, featured something amiss.  There seemed to be a subtle change that was difficult to spot at first glance.  Wait, there it is!

There, in the place where we’re used to seeing a blue field adorned with 50 stars that represent the 50 states in the United States of America, was a lone star.  A rock star.  A Democrat rock star.

50 stars had been replaced with President Obama’s face:

All Patriots Media writes:
A group of Veterans in Lake County, Florida have shown their disgust for the county Democrats who have desecrated the American flag by putting up a mock flag that has President Obama’s face where the 50 stars belong…
In a story from WFTV.com, the veterans went to the offices and demanded the flag be taken down. At first, Lake County Democrat Party Chairwoman Nancy Hulbert declined to take it down, letting the veterans know that if they touch the flag she’ll call the police. 10 minutes later, she came out with a pair of scissors, and took the flag down, noting that she had looked online to figure out if the flag was against the US Flag Code:
Just went online. Just went online and looked up the flag code. There is no higher-up in Lake County. I’m responsible. I take responsibility.

Warner Todd Huston at Right Pundits adds:

The Party hack at the office fought against the veteran that went to demand they take down the altered U.S. flag (because it violates the flag code, he said) saying it was private property and she could do whatever she wanted.
NOW Democrats are worried about private property?
Anyway, the fact that these Democrat hacks didn’t understand immediately that putting Obama’s face on a U.S. flag was not only a violation of the flag codes (an honor system rule, not a law) but was actually offensive to most people, well it’s telling, indeed.

While it is upsetting to veterans for obvious reasons, this is nothing new for Obama fans.

Inside Charm City reported on another example in 2009, citing a photograph that appeared in the Baltimore Sun.

And even prior to that, I covered a story back in August of 2008, in which the tickets for the Democrat National Convention featured Barack Obama draped in an upside-down flag.
…a ticket design for the Democratic National Convention has been accompanied by a bit of controversy.
The credential appears to show an upside-down American flag on both sides. What’s worse, the front makes it appear as if Obama is cloaked in the flag, as the stars are almost visually equivalent to his shirt. In fact, Matt Chandler speaking on behalf of the Obama campaign states:
“…it is a stylized flag designed to blend the stars on Senator Obama’s shirt with the flag blowing in the wind.”
The first question that arises is why would a man who once refused to wear the American flag on his lapel, be interested in sporting a patriotic shirt, overflowing with stars?
Second question, despite the following denial from the Democratic National Convention Committee…
“The DNCC community credentials incorporate patriotic design elements. They do not depict an actual American flag.”
… How did the designer of the credentials not realize that perception might lead people to believe this is indeed a representation of an upside-down flag?
Of course, where all of us pundits lose our point is when we bring up the question of flag etiquette, and U.S. flag codes.  We assume that those on the left are equally as concerned with patriotic symbolism – they are not.  Don’t believe me?  Just check out this Harvard study that confirmed that July 4th celebrations beget more Republicans:
USNews reports a new Harvard study confirms Republicans are more patriotic than Democrats.
A new Harvard University study finds that July 4th parades energize only Republicans, turn kids into Republicans, and help to boost the GOP turnout of adults on Election Day.

“Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation’s political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican Party,” said the report from Harvard.

“The political right has been more successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century. Survey evidence also confirms that Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than Democrats. According to this interpretation, there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party. Fourth of July celebrations in Republican dominated counties may thus be more politically biased events that socialize children into Republicans,” write Harvard Kennedy School Assistant Professor David Yanagizawa-Drott and Bocconi University Assistant Professor Andreas Madestam.

Perhaps if liberals spent less time burning the flag, and more time learning about it’s history and symbolism, these mistakes would be less frequent.

Obama’s Economic Plan – Making Stuff and Selling Stuff

January 27, 2012 at 5:05 pm (America, Economy, Manufacturing, Nevada, President Obama, Stuff, UPS)

Looks like I spoke too soon earlier.  🙂

This is the greatest orator of our time mind you, laying out his economic vision for the future of America.

Via Real Clear Politics:

“On Tuesday at the State of the Union, I laid out my vision for how we move forward,” President Obama said at a campaign event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I laid out a blueprint for an economy that’s built to last, that has a firm foundation. Where we’re making stuff and selling stuff and moving it around and UPS drivers are dropping things off everywhere.”

“That’s the economy we want. An economy built on American manufacturing, with more good jobs and more products made here in the United States of America,” he also said.

Holy crap.

If I asked my kids about their economic plan for the country, they’d spit out something slightly more intelligent than this.

Dear Juan Williams, Even My 10-Year-Old Daughter Understands the Value of Hard Work

January 18, 2012 at 1:38 am (America, Debate, Hard Work, Juan Williams, Newt Gingrich, President Obama, Racism, South Carolina)

I was watching the debate last night with my wife and daughter.  At ten years of age, she does occasionally surprise with her interest in current events.

She sat quietly as bed time approached, with quiet being a rarity at that time of night, and listened as Juan Williams injected race into a question about hard work.

Speaker Gingrich, you recently said, “Black Americans should demand jobs, not food stamps.” You also said, “Poor kids lack a strong work ethic,” and proposed having them work as janitors in their schools. Can’t you see that this is viewed, at a minimum, as insulting to all Americans, but particularly to black Americans?

We then watched as Newt skillfully responded, defending his stance:

Juan, the fact is that more people have been put on food stamps by Barack Obama than any President in American history. I know among the politically correct you are not supposed to use facts that are uncomfortable.

I believe every American of every background has been endowed by their creator with the right to pursue happiness, and if that makes liberals unhappy, I’m going to continue to find ways to help poor people learn how to get a job, learn to get a better job and learn some day to own the job.

Off to bed she went…

The Gingrich response may prove to be a pivotal point in the debate, or it may not.  But it clearly left an indelible mark on my daughter.  The following day she penned a letter to whoever may serve as the next President of the United States.  In it, she wrote:

In Social Studies, we are learning about how the patriots put in the hard work to change America, even in the most difficult of times

My point is, even in the most difficult times in the office always remember, this country was founded upon freedom, liberty, justice, but most of all hard work.  Hard work made America what it is today.  Hard work made America so revolutionary, and if you become President, it’s YOUR responsibility to keep it that way.

Hard work – a universal attribute of Americans.  Not blacks, not whites – Americans.

Do you get it now, Juan?
