What liberal media bias?
Members of the media have apparently been using “fake” names to buy official Obama gear and contribute to the Obama campaign inside the Time Warner Cable Arena where the President is due to speak in a few minutes. During our travels around the arena, Politicker spotted a souvenir stand in one of the press stands selling T-shirts and buttons supporting President Barack Obama, “Democrats Are Hot” bumper stickers and other official Obama merchandise.
The souvenir stand was in a secure area only accessible to those with a media credential and buying campaign gear means contributing to the campaign, so we asked the woman working the cash register whether anyone at the press stand had been making purchases. Her answers were quite surprising.
The woman working at the souvenir stand told us she hadn’t been “too busy” during the day, but had seen business pick up in the past half hour or so. She then asked us whether we wanted to buy anything. When we informed her that our status as a reporter means we don’t buy campaign gear, she suggested a strategy other members of the media have apparently used to pick up their Obama swag.
“Have you ever thought of making up a fake name? That’s what the other guys do,” she said.
Perhaps the fake names would match their equally fake objectivity. While this is a joke to those who already recognize the level of bias in the media, the act itself is no laughing matter.
Matthew Sheffield of NewsBusters explains:
Buying Obama merchandise at the DNC actually requires a donation to the Democratic National Committee. Giving out a fake name to buy Obama swag is also likely a crime, if indeed it is taking place.
Perhaps they wouldn’t be able to commit such a crime if they were only asked to present some sort of photo ID.
There has been speculation for much of the week that the DNC would have to shift their convention site to a smaller venue for fear that the President Empty Chair would be on live television talking to a lot of … well … empty chairs.
Speculation has become reality now, as they are relocating the President’s speech from Bank of America Stadium to a much smaller Time Warner Cable Arena.
The capacity for BOA Stadium is roughly 65,000 people, whereas the new arena only seats about 20,000.
Of course, CBS dutifully bought the DNC’s reasoning for the change…
Democrats are significantly downsizing the final night of their national convention, moving the events — including President Obama’s acceptance speech — from Bank of America Stadium to the Time Warner Cable Arena because of threats of thunder and lightning.
Of course, as Ben White points out, there is only a 40% chance of afternoon showers in the Charlotte area, hardly a major threat of lightning storms, and certainly not cause for worry over 24 hours out.
And all these years we were under the impression that the government belonged to the people. Not so according to the opening video at the Democrat National Convention, which tells viewers that “government is the only thing we all belong to”.
The party that handed us the phrase “You didn’t build that” and “We make it possible”, now says we all belong to government. Only mildly creepy.
The video prompted Mitt Romney to immediately tweet in response – “We don’t belong to the government, the government belongs to us”.
The shocking part here is that they ever actually had God in the platform to begin with.
Guess what? God’s name has been removed from the Democratic National Committee platform.
This is the paragraph that was in the 2008 platform:
“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”
Now the words “God-given” have been removed. The paragraph has been restructured to say this:
“We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”
I suppose it would be difficult to include God in a platform that also “opposes any effort” to stop abortion.
Democrats at the 2012 Democratic National Convention are set to approve a platform today that is unambiguously pro-abortion and opposes any effort whatsoever to stop any abortions. The platform also calls on forcing Americans to pay for abortions at taxpayer expense.
The platform Democrats will approve rejects efforts to stop forcing taxpayers to fund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business and supports the Obama HHS mandate that forces religious groups to pay for and refer women for abortion-causing drugs under Obamacare.
Here is an excerpt of the exact wording on their abortion stance:
The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.
And so it is… Democrats are waging a War on God, Catholics, women, and children.
Apparently this is real.
California Democrat John Burton, who has recently come under fire for comparing Republicans in general, and Paul Ryan in particular, to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels, has left the building at the Democrat National Convention.
Jazz Shaw of Hot Air recently wrote a piece about the corruption being unveiled in New York politics these past few weeks titled, “Something Rotten in New York”. In it, Shaw writes about the taxpayer funded cover up of sexual assault claims made against one of Brooklyn’s most powerful Democrat politicians. A payment to sweep sexual assault allegations under the rug to avoid an ethics inquiry was authorized by New York State Assembly Leader Sheldon Silver.
Last week we wrote:
… what was once praised as a swift response, has been a proven case of pandering to members of government with a penchant for sexual misconduct. In a stunning revelation, the New York Times reports that Silver attempted to keep previous Lopez harassment issues swept under the rug, authorizing a secret payment to two other victims for an eye-popping $103,080.
Sadly, this wasn’t the first time that Silver had paid a victim of sexual harassment and/or assault taxpayer funded hush money.
In 2003, Silver was criticized for a slow response to a case involving his former aide, J. Michael Boxley, who was accused of rape and later pled guilty to sexual misconduct. Three years later, the Assembly agreed to pay $500,000 of taxpayer money to settle the case.
How badly must it undermine the Democrats entire mantra of Republicans waging a “War on Women” when one of New York’s most powerful politicians has been caught – twice – paying women who have been sexually assaulted to keep quiet?
So indeed, something does smell rotten in New York. Up here in these parts, we just call it politics as usual. When you live so closely to the sewage waste plant that is New York politics, you become fatigued of the stench.
Not so for the national scene however.
Silver you see, is one of the members of New York’s delegates set to appear at the Democrat National Convention this week, where he will once again have the honor of announcing that they are endorsing Barack Obama for president during the Democratic convention.
At the DNC, amongst people that aren’t used to such a level of rancid politics, Sheldon Silver’s presence with the New York delegation has created some controversy. Silver has been pressured to cede his role to somebody else at the convention, to no avail.
But just in case you weren’t clear on just how awful the stench is coming from New York, the faction that ranks behind only California in size, which includes powerful Democrat Chuck Schumer, and Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand, who has been targeted for a possible presidential run in 2016, has been placed about as far away from the podium as humanly possible.
Take a look at these seats…
CapTon executive producer Michael Johnson took this shot from the podium of the New York delegation’s seating area, which is aaaaaalllll the way in the back of the Time Warner Cable Arena.
It’s far worse a location than the Republicans had at the Tampa Bay Times Forum last week, even though they’re just about as low on the party totem pole as the Democrats are here in Charlotte.
Democrats who have made it inside to see their seating have been overheard grousing about their poor placement, especially considering how much campaign cash Obama has raised in NYC.
The Democratic National Committee has had to apologize for stooping to the level of lowly MSNBC hosts, producing a series of mocking ads featuring the Romneys’ expensive sport-horse. The horse is used by Ann Romney as a form of therapy for her multiple sclerosis.
Even as late as last night, the DNC was defending the ads as an attack on Mitt Romney and not his wife. One spokeswoman for the Democrats said:
“One of Mitt Romney’s hobbies and investments is his dressage horse. And, like his horse, Mitt Romney continues to dance around the issues, from answering why he’s invested in known foreign tax havens or trying to rewrite his position on letting Detroit go bankrupt.”
It’s not like they lacked the knowledge that the horse has been used by Ann Romney as a form of therapy for MS, since MSNBC host Lawrence O”Donnell embarrassed himself last month by mocking Mrs. Romney for the very same thing. Is the DNC now getting their talking points from one of the most biased and fact-challenged networks in the history of mainstream media?
Perhaps, but for now the Democrats have been forced to apologize.
Via ABC News:
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now the Democratic National Committee is offering an apology of sorts to Ann Romney.
At issue is a DNC video featuring footage of Ann Romney’s dancing show horse. The DNC used the horse in mocking way to attack Mitt Romney for not releasing his tax returns (and dancing around the issue).
The DNC introduced the video as the first in a series of videos featuring the horse, which is owned jointly by Ann and Mitt Romney.
Ann Romney, who trains with show horses as part of her therapy for multiple sclerosis, took offense in an interview with Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America,” and now the DNC is saying it will put out no more horse videos, and is expressing regret for offending Ann Romney.
“Our use of the Romneys’ dressage horse was not meant to offend Mrs. Romney in any way, and we regret it if it did,” DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse told ABC News. “We were simply making a point about Governor Romney’s failure to give straight answers on a variety of issues in this race. We have no plans to invoke the horse any further to avoid misinterpretation.”
This is already a brutal campaign, but the Obamas have long said families are off limits. Apparently somebody high up reminded the DNC of that.
Doubtful. While the Obamas have claimed families are off limits, they have relentlessly invoked images and stories of their daughters to push their agenda throughout the campaign. More likely, just as MSNBC had done, the DNC didn’t properly do a background check on the Romney’s use of the dressage horse, jumping at a chance to mock Mitt as being a rich horse owner.
Any chance to gin up a little class warfare, even if it involves mocking people for their chosen method of therapy for a dreaded disease.
The question here is – Which is the word they take more offense to, ‘bank’ or ‘America’?
President Obama will be delivering his acceptance speech at the Democrat National Convention in Charlotte in early September. Recent campaign e-mails have been touting the event, held at Panther Stadium.
Problem is, there’s no venue by that name in Charlotte.
National Democrats have repeatedly touted their stand against taking corporate money for their convention in September, and so it was striking to see two emails from the DNC host committee referring to the Charlotte venue where President Obama will speak as “Panthers Stadium.”
It’s the place where the Panthers play, but it’s actually called Bank of America stadium.
A recent email from the host committee signed by former Al Gore campaign manager Donna Brazile urged people to win a trip to Charlotte for the event, which will wrap “Thursday night at Panthers Stadium with President Obama.”
Another email in June made the same pitch about the stadium.
A host committee spokeswoman didn’t respond to an email. But it’s not like the stadium was ever called Panthers Stadium – first opened in 1996, it was Carolinas Stadium, and later Ericsson Stadium. Then the current corporate iteration.
Here is a copy of Brazile’s e-mail (h/t Outside the Beltway):
Wonder how this will play out in the very Jewish community that Democrats are trying to reach out to. My opinion – young girl, dumb mistake, move on…
Via the Washington Free Beacon:
The Democratic Party’s newly appointed Jewish outreach liaison is pictured on Facebook in a series of provocative photos with her friends holding dollar bills and referring to themselves as “Jewbags” and the “Jew cash money team.”
Dani Gilbert, who has been a staffer in the office of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.), was recently appointed as the Democratic National Committee’s Jewish outreach liaison, according to her Twitter feed.
Photos publicly available on her Facebook page depict her engaged in the kind of youthful displays that social media like Facebook and Twitter have made increasingly common and problematic for young Washington staffers.
In one photo, Gilbert is seen kissing paper currency of undetermined denomination. The caption at the bottom of the photo reads “JEWBAGS.” A comment left on the posting refers to Gilbert and a coterie of female companions as the “Jew cash money team.” Other photos depict Gilbert as a bit of a party girl, including one featuring an assortment of condoms.
Adds The Shark Tank:
Jew-on-Jew hate is nothing new, but within the Democratic National Committee, this is clearly unchartered territory. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s ol’ staffer and newly named the DNC’s Jewish Outreach Liason Dani Gilbert refers to herself an her fellow khevre (khev’reh) as “Jewbags.”
Oy Veh! Can you imagine if a Republican Jewish Outreach staffer were to have posted similar pictures with these same comments? His/her head would be asked to be served on some type of Seder platter or something. Listen, I get the funny here. It’s like Blacks referring to one another as ‘N******’, right?
As William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection points out, the real controversy isn’t over the photos, it’s that Gilbert looks like a clone of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
What makes it really freaky, doubly-freaky, is the image of the young lady hired by Wasserman-Shultz for Jewish outreach. Click at your peril. It’s safe for work, but not for the mind. Have we legalized cloning?
A DWS clone is a horrifying concept…
