More Voter Intimidation: Eric Holder’s People Back in Philadelphia

November 6, 2012 at 10:12 am (2012 Election, Eric Holder, Intimidation, New Black Panther Party, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Polls, Voter Intimidation)

Before we get wrongly accused of racism, you might recall that Eric Holder famously referred to the case against New Black Panther Party members who showed up to Philly voting stations in 2008 wielding clubs as demeaning to “my people“.

Guess what?  They’re back…

This is a photo from the 14th Ward in Philadlephia.

Local TV stations are aware of yet another blatant attempt at intimidating voters by the uber-racist New Black Panther Party.
And now Fox News has reported on it:

Paul Ryan: It’s Time For Eric Holder to Step Aside

October 2, 2012 at 7:26 pm (Attorney General, Department of Justice, Eric Holder, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, President Obama)

That time was long, long ago.

Paul Ryan earlier today sent this e-mail to Romney supporters, calling for Attorney General Eric Holder to resign, and urging voters to replace both he and President Obama in November.

It’s time for Attorney General Holder to step aside.

He’s misled Congress, and entirely botched the investigation of the Operation Fast and Furious debacle — yet he still leads our nation’s Justice Department.

It’s just another example of the Obama Administration’s transparent hypocrisy that despite the tragic and very human toll of this scandal, Attorney General Holder refuses to resign — and President Obama refuses to remove him.

It’s up to the American people to replace both of them on November 6. Let’s call it “The Clear Choice.”

Donate now to vote Barack Obama and Attorney General Holder out of office on Election Day — so that Mitt Romney and I can restore justice to the Justice Department.

Thank you,

Paul Ryan

Meanwhile, as we all wonder why Holder hasn’t already resigned as a show of respect to the lives his department have permanently destroyed, Univision is continuing to report on guns from Fast and Furious being used in other murders, possibly as late as the summer of 2011.

Via the Daily Caller:

When Mexican authorities took Juarez drug cartel carnage king Jose Antonio Acosta Hernandez — better known as “El Diego” — into custody, he had weapons from Operation Fast and Furious on his person, the English-language transcript of the Spanish-language television network Univision’s special investigation into the scandal shows.

“According to investigations, ‘El Diego’ forms the link between this massacre and Fast and Furious,” an anchor read on air in Spanish Sunday evening, referring to two different mass killings drug cartel operatives used Fast and Furious weapons to conduct as Univision reported.

“When he [El Diego] was captured in Chihuahua in the summer of 2011, he was found with weapons that the American government had allowed to enter Mexico,” the anchor added.

El Diego was, until he was taken into custody, the leader of the Juarez drug cartel’s La Linea — or “enforcement arm.” According to the El Paso Times, El Diego told Mexican authorities after his capture that La Linea’s mission was, among other things, to “eliminate the members of the Sinaloa cartel in Ciudad Juárez.”

Holder should indeed step aside.

More Blood on Their Hands: Univision Finds More Fast and Furious Victims

October 1, 2012 at 7:00 am (ATF, Brian Terry, Bureau of Alcohol, Colombia, Drug Cartels, Eric Holder, Explosives, Fast and Furious, Firearms, Honduras, Jaime Zapata, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Tobacco, Univision, Victor Avila, Villas de Salvarcar)

Univision is keeping the heat on President Obama, performing investigative work that the American media has simply refused to do regarding Fast and Furious.

In a recent interview with the President, a Univision reporter asked why he shouldn’t fire Attorney General Eric Holder.  It turns out, the reporter may have been asking based on even further evidence of the operation’s criminal nature.

Yesterday, the Spanish-language television network aired a special that revealed the botched gun-smuggling operation known as Fast and Furious was far more deadly than previously understood.

The documentary revealed that in 2010, a party of nearly 60 teenagers were gunned down by assassins who had been armed by the United States Government.  The result – 16 people dead, mostly teenagers.

Indirectly, the United States government played a role in the massacre by supplying some of the firearms used by the cartel murderers. Three of the high caliber weapons fired that night in Villas de Salvarcar were linked to a gun tracing operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), according to a Mexican army document obtained exclusively by Univision News.

And it gets worse…

Univision News identified a total of 57 more previously unreported firearms that were bought by straw purchasers monitored by ATF during Operation Fast and Furious, and then recovered in Mexico in sites related to murders, kidnappings, and at least one other massacre.

In fact, the report indicates that other U.S. agents had fallen victim to guns supplied by the U.S. government.

Victor Avila and Jaime Zapata, two U.S. Federal Agents assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, were in the process of transporting surveillance equipment when their vehicle was surrounded by cartel members and shot more than 90 times. Zapata died and Avila was seriously wounded.

An official familiar with the Congressional investigation into Fast and Furious referred to Univision’s report as “the holy grail”.  The report also showed that guns were trafficked to other countries as well.

“Univision News’ Investigative Unit was also able to identify additional guns that escaped the control of ATF agents and were used in different types of crimes throughout Mexico,” the network added. “Furthermore, some of these guns — none of which were reported by congressional investigators — were put in the hands of drug traffickers in Honduras, Puerto Rico, and Colombia. A person familiar with the recent congressional hearings called Univision’s findings ‘the holy grail’ that Congress had been searching for.”

So the question remains – Why hasn’t Eric Holder been fired yet?

Obama Donor Heads Organization that Freed Terrorist Accused of Plotting Attack in Benghazi

September 20, 2012 at 10:03 pm (Abu Sufian bin Qumu, Benghazi, Chris Stevens, Donor, Eric Holder, George Bush, Gitmo, Guantanamo Bay, Libya, Michael Ratner, President Obama, War Crimes)

There are reports tonight that a radical left-wing organization is responsible for helping to free a former detainee at Guantanamo Bay named Abu Sufian bin Qumu.  Bin Qumu has been cited by multiple sources at Fox News as at least being involved with, and possibly playing the lead role in the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.  Those attacks resulted in the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American diplomats.

Michelle Malkin has revealed that the Center for Constitutional Rights represented Qumu and helped lead the charge in freeing him back in 2007.

Longtime readers know that I’ve extensively covered the troublesome conflict of interest at the Department of Justice involving Attorney General Eric Holder and his former law firm, Covington and Burling, which has represented a score of Gitmo detainees. See my archive of posts on the matter here. Many readers have asked whether the firm represented Abu Sufian bin Qumu, the former Gitmo detainee released in 2007 — and now named as the possible lead plotter in the bloody attacks on our consulate personnel, staff, and private security contractors in Benghazi.

The left-wing organization that helped spring Qumu was the Center for Constitutional Rights. Last April, the group issued an indignant press release painting Qumu as a harmless victim and blasting those concerned about his unrepentant jihadi ways. After a trove of Gitmo documents found their way to Wikileaks and were published by the New York Times, CCR rose to Qumu’s defense and parroted jihadi propaganda that the aggrieved Qumu was actually a friend of the U.S.

President Emeritus of the CCR, Michael Ratner, has long advocated for closing Guantanamo Bay’s doors, and for the right of Gitmo detainees within.  In a 2009 article for the Huffington Post, Ratner sings the praises of his organization’s efforts, calling the release of two thirds of Gitmo detainees an “amazing success”.

While feeling that terrorists caught on the battlefield were privy to the same rights as ordinary Americans, Ratner also repeatedly advocated for the prosecution of senior-level Bush administration officials, calling the detention of those terrorists, like bin Qumu, unlawful.  His op-ed for CNN made a case for prosecuting former President George W. Bush for torture under the War Crimes Act.

In other words, terrorists captured on the battlefield were being held illegally, but the Bush administration officials who were gathering intelligence from those terrorists should be tried for war crimes.

In 2008, Ratner signed an endorsement for Barack Obama in his presidential bid, based on a belief that Obama would best represent the rights of Gitmo detainees.  He and 79 other lawyers said in a joint statement, that they believed Obama was the best choice to roll back the Bush-Cheney administration’s detention policies in the war on terrorism and thereby to “restore the rule of law, demonstrate our commitment to human rights, and repair our reputation in the world community.”

Ratner, on the same day as endorsing Obama in word, also endorsed through donation, sending $2,300 to the Obama campaign.

Sadly for Ratner, much like other voters in 2008, he became disillusioned with President Obama, stating recently that there is little difference between the humans rights policies of Obama and those of Bush.
The question now is, will Ratner also call for Obama to be charged for war crimes violations?
And will he admit the danger involved in releasing terrorists that have a high rate of recidivism upon gaining freedom?  His organization played a key role in the release of a man who would later launch a terrorist attack on sovereign U.S. soil.

E-Mails Reveal Justice Department Coordinating With Media to Spin Scandals

September 18, 2012 at 9:00 am (Eric Holder, Hans von Spakovsky, J. Christian Adams, Justice Department, Media Bias, Media Matters, New Black Panther Party, Scandal)

They do this over in state-run media loving China, don’t they?

Via the Daily Caller:

Internal Department of Justice emails obtained by The Daily Caller show Attorney General Eric Holder’s communications staff has collaborated with the left-wing advocacy group Media Matters for America in an attempt to quell news stories about scandals plaguing Holder and America’s top law enforcement agency.
Dozens of pages of emails between DOJ Office of Public Affairs Director Tracy Schmaler and Media Matters staffers show Schmaler, Holder’s top press defender, working with Media Matters to attack reporters covering DOJ scandals. TheDC obtained the emails through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
(RELATED: Complete coverage of Media Matters for America)
Emails sent in September and November 2010 show Schmaler working with Media Matters staffer Jeremy Holden on attacking news coverage of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation scandal.
Holden attacked former DOJ Civil Rights Division attorneys J. Christian Adams and Hans von Spakovsky on Sept. 20, 2010 for what he called an attempt “to reignite the phony New Black Panther Party scandal.”

This story should be a bombshell to the American people, but let’s see how the Obama-friendly media spins it.  The reason any government official coordinating with the media is big news is because this is what they do in Communist countries.  It’s propoganda.

The fact that they coordinated with Media Matters is even more troublesome, because in another Daily Caller investigation, the group had bragged about writing the ‘prime time’ news for other media outlets.

Coordinated, undeniable, media bias.

Justice Department: Schizophrenic, Intellectually Disabled? We Want You!

August 23, 2012 at 9:00 am (Affirmative Action, Department of Justice, Eric Holder, Fast and Furious, Intellectually Disabled, Justice Department, Mentally Disabled, Schizophrenic, War on Intelligence)

There’s politically correct hiring practices, and then there’s weapons grade stupidity.  Guess which side of the aisle Eric Holder’s Department of Justice falls on?

Yes, the same agency that brought you the bumbling effort known as Fast and Furious, has been actively engaged in a policy of ‘affirmatively recruiting’ people with ‘targeted disabilities’.  This means that they weren’t simply issuing directives against discriminatory hiring practices regarding disabled individuals, it means they actively sought out those very recruits.

So what types of disabilities were the Justice Department looking for in their attorneys and staff members (document embedded below)?

  • Severe Intellectual Disabilities
  • Psychiatric Disabilities
  • Other Current Severe Physical, Intellectual, or Mental Conditions
Because nothing restores confidence in the Justice Department like an attorney with a ‘severe intellectual disability’.
Additionally, recruits featuring these ‘targeted disabilities’ have the benefit of being hired via a ‘non-competitive’ appointment, and may be hired “before the position is advertised” and “before the positions closing date”, giving them a clear advantage over potentially more qualified, more mentally-abled individuals.
In other words, it actually benefited a person to have psychological, mental, or intellectual deficiencies when seeking a job in Eric Holder’s department.

The easy joke here is that this explains the incompetence of the Justice Department, but such a ridiculous method for affirmatively hiring disabled employees is no laughing matter.

Fast and Furious Official Given Extended Paid Leave While Earning Six Figures at Financial Services Company

August 22, 2012 at 11:08 am (ATF, Bill McMahon, Brian Terry, Chuck Grassley, Darrell Issa, Eric Holder, Fast and Furious, Gun Smuggling, Justice Department, Mexico, President Obama, William McMahon)

In what can only be described as a curious arrangement, a senior official at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a man who has been singled out as a top official involved in the gun-running scandal known as Fast and Furious, has been earning paid leave from the bureau while simultaneously drawing an additional six figure salary with a major financial services company.

Bill McMahon was one of five officials named in an indictment that charged him with extensive involvement in the leadership failures of Operation Fast and Furious.  The indictment specifically accused McMahon of giving false Congressional testimony.  An additional report indicated that McMahon knew there were no safeguards in place to prevent a large number of guns from getting across the border, but he still made no effort to stop it.

Now however, two Republican lawmakers are demanding answers as to how McMahon can remain on paid leave while earning another six-figure salary working full time for the investment bank J.P. Morgan.  Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) have penned a letter to the Department of Justice asking how such an arrangement could be approved.

“Under any reading of the relevant personnel regulations, it appears that ATF management was under no obligation to approve this sort of arrangement,” wrote Issa and Grassley. “Given McMahon’s outsized role in the Fast and Furious scandal, the decision to approve an extended annual leave arrangement in order to attain pension eligibility and facilitate full-time, outside employment while still collecting a full-time salary at ATF raises a host of questions about both the propriety of the arrangement and the judgment of ATF management.”

The letter continues: “ATF has essentially facilitated McMahon’s early retirement and ability to double dip for nearly half a year by receiving two full-time paychecks—one from the taxpayer and one from the private sector.  Moreover, ATF did not wait for the Office of Inspector General to complete its report on Fast and Furious before approving the arrangement.  This is in sharp contrast to the posture the agency has taken with whistleblowers like Special Agent John Dodson, who is told he must wait until the Inspector General’s report is complete before the agency will even consider his simple request for a statement retracting the false statements made about him by agency leadership.”

The full text of the letter can be found here…

To this date, nobody has been punished for a botched and possibly illegal gun-smuggling operation that resulted in the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, as well as countless Mexican citizens.

This report simply indicates that the Justice Department not only feels they have nothing to answer to (a mindset facilitated by Eric Holder’s contempt of Congress and the President’s utilization of Executive Privilege), but that they are actually willing to reward those who were directly involved in the operation.

The Justice Department, Eric Holder, and the President continue to dance on the graves of those that their incompetence and corruption killed.

Federal Judge Rules Obama Appointees Interfered With Prosecution of New Black Panthers

July 30, 2012 at 4:08 pm (Department of Justice, Eric Holder, Judicial Watch, Justice Department, New Black Panther Party, Obama Appointees, President Obama, Washington D.C.)

Was there ever any doubt that Eric Holder’s Justice Department played a role in getting the charges against the New Black Panthers voter intimidation case dismissed?

From Beltway Confidential:

A federal court in Washington, DC, held today that political appointees appointed by President Obama did interfere with the Department of Justice’s prosecution of the New Black Panther Party.

The ruling came as part of a motion by the conservative legal watch dog group Judicial Watch, who had sued the DOJ in federal court to enforce a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents pertaining to the the New Black Panthers case. Judicial Watch had secured many previously unavailable documents through their suit against DOJ and were now suing for attorneys’ fees.

Obama’s DOJ had claimed Judicial Watch was not entitled to attorney’s fees since “none of the records produced in this litigation evidenced any political interference whatsoever in” how the DOJ handled the New Black Panther Party case. But United States District Court Judge Reggie Walton disagreed

Human Events adds:

“The documents reveal that political appointees within DOJ were conferring about the status and resolution of the New Black Panther Party case in the days preceding the DOJ’s dismissal of claims in that case, which would appear to contradict Assistant Attorney General Perez’s testimony that political leadership was not involved in that decision.”

White House Accused of Leaking Classified Information, Romney Says It "Betrays Our National Interests"

July 24, 2012 at 10:26 am (2012 Election, Bob Gates, Classified Information, Dianne Feinstein, Eric Holder, Leaks, Mitt Romney, National Interests, National Security, President Obama, Robert Gates, Secret, Security, Top Secret, White House)

Prominent Democrat and leader of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Dianne Feinstein, said Monday that it appears the White House itself is responsible for leaks of important classified information.

“I think the White House has to understand that some of this is coming from their ranks,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein told a World Affairs Council forum.

The California lawmaker said she was certain that President Barack Obama, who receives a daily intelligence briefing, isn’t disclosing secret information, but she was uncertain about others at the White House. “I don’t believe for a moment that he goes out and talks about it,” she said.

Republicans have criticized the disclosures, arguing that members of the Obama administration were intentionally leaking classified material to enhance the president’s reputation in an election year. Attorney General Eric Holder has appointed two attorneys to lead the investigation into who leaked information about U.S. involvement in cyberattacks on Iran and about an al-Qaida plot to place an explosive device aboard a U.S.-bound airliner.

Governor Mitt Romney is giving a speech to the VFW in Reno later today, where he is expected to address the national security issue.  Excerpts provided by the campaign state:

It is reported that Bob Gates, the President’s first secretary of defense, bluntly addressed another security problem within this administration. After secret operational details of the bin Laden raid were given to reporters, Secretary Gates walked into the West Wing and told the Obama team to “shut up.” He added a colorful word for emphasis.

Lives of American servicemen were at stake. But astonishingly, the administration failed to change its ways. More top-secret operations were leaked, even some involving covert action in Iran.

This isn’t a partisan issue; it’s a national security crisis. And yesterday, Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said, quote, “I think the White House has to understand that some of this is coming from their ranks.”

This conduct is contemptible. It betrays our national interest. It compromises our men and women in the field. And it demands a full and prompt investigation, with explanation and consequence. Whoever provided classified information to the media, seeking political advantage for the administration, must be exposed, dismissed, and punished. The time for stonewalling is over.

It is not enough to say the matter is being looked into, and leave it at that. When the issue is the political use of highly sensitive national security information, it is unacceptable to say, “We’ll report our findings after Election Day.”

Exactly who in the White House betrayed these secrets? Did a superior authorize it? These are things that Americans are entitled to know – and they are entitled to know right now. If the President believes – as he said last week – that the buck stops with him, then he owes all Americans a full and prompt accounting of the facts.

And let me be clear: These events make the decision we face in November all the more important. What kind of White House would reveal classified material for political gain? I’ll tell you right now: Mine won’t.

Issa Statement on Vote Holding Eric Holder in Contempt

June 28, 2012 at 5:54 pm (Attorney General, Contempt, Darrell Issa, Democrat, Department of Justice, Eric Holder, Fast and Furious, House of Representatives, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee)

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a resolution holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress over his refusal to produce Operation Fast and Furious documents subpoenaed last October.  The vote on H.Res. 711, making a finding of contempt, was approved by a vote of 255 to 67.  Seventeen Democrats crossed party lines to join the majority in the finding of contempt against Attorney General Eric Holder.  The House is also scheduled to vote later today on H.Res. 706, authorizing civil action in courts to compel production of subpoenaed documents.  House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa issued this statement following passage:

“Today, a bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for his continued refusal to produce relevant documents in the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious. This was not the outcome I had sought and it could have been avoided had Attorney General Holder actually produced the subpoenaed documents he said he could provide.

“The Congressional inquiry into Operation Fast and Furious, and the cover-up by Justice Department officials of wrongdoing, has been a fair and fact based investigation.  False and partisan allegations by the White House and some congressional Democrats about the Oversight Committee’s efforts were undermined by the votes of 17 Democrats.  These Members resisted the pressure of their own leadership and the Obama Administration to support this investigation on the House floor.

“Claims by the Justice Department that it has fully cooperated with this investigation fall at odds with its conduct:  issuing false denials to Congress when senior officials clearly knew about gunwalking, directing witnesses not to answer entire categories of questions, retaliating against whistleblowers, and producing only 7,600 documents while withholding over 100,000.

“I greatly appreciate the ongoing efforts of Senator Chuck Grassley, his staff, and other Senators on the Judiciary Committee who have pressed the Obama Administration for the full truth.  Senator Grassley began this investigation and has been a full partner throughout it.  I must also recognize the hard work done by many of my colleagues here in the House – without their efforts the Justice Department’s stonewalling would have succeeded.

“My message to my colleagues and others who have fought for answers:  We are still fighting for the truth and accountability – for the family of murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, for whistleblowers who have faced retaliation, and for countless victims of Operation Fast and Furious in Mexico.  Unless President Obama relents to this bipartisan call for transparency and an end to the cover-up, our fight will move to the courts where we will prevail in getting the documents that the Justice Department and President Obama’s flawed assertion of executive privilege have denied the American people.”
