Waiting for the punchline? There isn’t one.
This isn’t a satirical article, ala The Onion. Nor is it a joke.
Liberal websites Gawker, the Huffington Post, and Democratic Underground are actually pushing the conspiracy theory that Mitt Romney dyed his face brown for an interview on Univision, in an attempt to appeal to Latino voters.
Here’s the Gawker write-up:
Mitt Romney currently trails President Obama among registered Latino voters by nearly 40%, and getting caught saying things like “it would be helpful to be Latino” certainly isn’t helping.
But has it gotten so bad that Romney is now resorting to “brownface” in order to make himself more appealing to Univision viewers? Democratic Underground has looked at the photo above from last night’s “presidential forum”and concluded that, yes, Romney definitely “dyed his face brown.”
I would imagine it has to actually physically hurt a person to be this level of stupid.
Of course, these liberal sites do not necessarily concentrate their stupidity on any one group, they tend to spread it around.
Remember when the Huffington Post was accusing a Hillary Clinton ad of darkening the face of Barack Obama to make him look more ‘threatening’?
You’d think an image of a man violently covering a frightened woman’s mouth, accompanied with the words, “He’s decided to become a father…right-wing Republicans want to make sure he does”, would be considered mildly extreme, right?
Not extreme enough for Huffington Post contributor and pro-Obama blogger, Erin Kotecki Vest.
Tony Katz reports:
Progressive blogger Erin Kotecki Vest posted the photo on her Facebook page. When asked if she was saying that the GOP condones rape, she replied: (and gave her permission to be quoted)
“Tony I am saying – and you can quote me – that the GOP is making sure rapists become fathers. Just like this graphic says. i did not say the GOP condones rape. I said the GOP is making sure rapists become fathers. Which is a FACT based on the GOP party platform as written, drafted and acceptd”
Vest doesn’t come out directly to confirm what the photo says, side stepping that obvious reality by saying that the GOP is making sure rapists become fathers. By any standard, this is not low. This is disgusting.
The group that created the image, and the group that Vest is promoting and in agreement with, also features an image on their Facebook page which reads:
Woman is legitimately raped
Woman gets pregnant
Woman has baby
Do you think the rapist deserves visitation rights?
This guy does
Vice-Presidential candidate Paul Ryan
It is an incredible leap of logic to travel in one’s mind from a pro-life platform to an assertion that Paul Ryan wants rapists to have visitation rights.
The fact that Vest is peddling such ridiculous imagery is important. Aside from being a prolific blogger for the Huffington Post, she also serves as Social Media Director for BlogHer, Inc., an organization that President Obama recently spoke to.
Vest can also be seen on the Barack Obama campaign website, touting the President’s healthcare reform. Her blog posts demonstrate that she is a leader and contributor for the organization Parents For Obama.
While re-posting an image on Facebook does not translate to supporting the message, Vest has doubled down by writing, “the GOP is making sure rapists become fathers”.
This is unhinged thinking befitting of a typical lefty blogger, but perhaps less so for the Social Media Director with a significant organization. And worse, a woman featured on the Obama campaign website as a supporter of the President, and leader of the group Parents For Obama.
Normally, I wouldn’t point to anything this ignorant because it doesn’t warrant a response. But I was strangely drawn to this piece in the same way that one is drawn to a car wreck on the highway.
Here we have a Huffington Post column claiming that not only is global warming real, but that it is apparently racist.
Who knew global warming was a Tea Partier?
H/t Weasel Zippers:
This summer 34,500 people were forced to evacuate their homes in my home state of Colorado. I watched as a dozen wildfires raged through the state with some contained in days or weeks, while others are still not extinguished.
The extremely hot weather, dry climate and dramatically reduced water supply that all led to the wildfires are part of a pattern that has been unfolding for more than a decade. In fact, the past 10 years have been unequivocally the hottest on record in the history of weather record keeping. But even that heat is dwarfed by what we’ve seen this year. According to the the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) the first six months of 2012 have been the hottest January-through-June period on record for the contiguous United States.
The national temperatures averaged “4.5 degrees above the long-term average,” the NOAA said in a statement last week.
None of this is a coincidence. It is the result of a manmade pandemic that could very well destroy the planet. It’s called climate change and it is very real and it is happening right now.
Make no mistake, this is a black issue.
The National Council of Churches Eco-Justice program has found that African Americans are at a higher risk for the short- and long-term effects of global warming. Cities will be hit harder by climate change because of what’s known as the “heat island” effect. Urban areas are covered in surfaces like asphalt and concrete that retain heat and as a result temperatures in these areas are higher, especially during heat waves.
Heat waves have stronger effects on urban populations and especially the urban poor. African Americans are more than twice as likely as whites to live in the inner city and nearly twice as likely as whites to live in poverty.
I’d like to point out to the author that the claim this is ‘a black issue’ is backed up by statements that ‘urban populations and especially the urban poor’ would be more readily susceptible to the effects of global warming.
Yet, in the paragraph before that he claims that global warming could “very well destroy the planet”.
He doubles up on that assertion later in the article saying:
This is how it starts.
It ends with seas and oceans rising to engulf entire cities, states and eventually countries.
If the planet is destroyed there Chicken Little, that would mean everyone has perished.
Which in turn would mean that global warming is very obviously NOT racially biased. After all, if the planet has been wiped out it would mean the end of blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asians, cats, dogs, goldfish, unicorns, the three little pigs, etc.
The whole premise that global warming harms blacks disproportionately is out the window.
Much like the Huffington Post’s credibility in publishing this piece…
Oh, those rascally French clothing companies. Seems La Redoute, a French clothing company, published a photo of four young children frolicking happily on the beach. Each was sporting swimsuit and beachwear from the fashion designer.
One small problem – there is a clearly visible pantsless man walking in the water behind them. How this got through editing is anybody’s guess…
Via Stylist UK (Warning – Graphic Imagery) (h/t Huffington post):
Upmarket French fashion chain La Redoute landed itself in hot water today (4 January) after inadvertently publishing a photo of a naked man on its website.
To make matters worse, the shoot featured four children – all dressed in La Redoute swimwear and happily playing on an idyllic-looking beach – with the nude individual just visible in the water behind them.
Whoever edited the photo and published it on the site was apparently unaware of the X-rated mishap, but reaction was swift on Twitter, with the French expressing both amusement and outrage.
“SCANDALE!” one user wrote, as another noted that with the children on the beach, the nudity was “un deuxième Fail pour la Redoute.”
A very unfortunate photo bomb indeed.
