Weekend Recess: Students Produce Viral ‘We Are Hungry’ Video In Response to Obama Administrations Lunch Rules

Yesterday, students from a New Jersey high school were planning a cafeteria protest against the Obama administration’s new lunch guidelines which include smaller portions at higher prices.

Instead of purchasing their lunch in the cafeteria, many students at Parsippany Hills High School are brown-bagging it – upset over smaller portions and higher prices.

“We’re asking everybody not to buy lunch or anything from the cafeteria,” student Brandon Faris told the Parsippany Patch.

Faris, a 17-year-old senior and junior Nicholas Caccavale, organized the strike and more than 1,000 of their classmates have joined a Facebook page to protest the federal guidelines.

“Nothing from the snack line, no water, no cookie – not a dime will be spent in the cafeteria.

The smaller portions are a part of the Obama administration’s Health Hunger-Free Kids Act – and local school districts across the nation are required to follow the federal mandates.

“We have to follow the law,” Board of Education member Anthony Mancuso told the Parsippany Patch.

Caccavale told Fox News that there is less food and it’s costing kids more money.

Even better, another group of students have posted a parody of the popular song ‘We Are Young’ titled, ‘We Are Hungry’.  The song pokes fun at the lunch regulations put in place by First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign against childhood obesity.

Best part of the video?  The kids t-shirt that says “I Love Beef”.

It’s pretty funny … Enjoy:

State Inspectors Target Child’s Lunch, Replace It With Government Approved Meal

February 15, 2012 at 10:46 am (Chicken Nuggets, G.L. Pridgen, Hoke County, Let's Move, North Carolina, Nutrition, Pre-K, School Lunch, This Isn't China, West Hoke Elementary)

This is beyond the pale, and had to be shared here.  If you’re a parent and you’re not outraged by this, then check yourself.

Let’s Move! … Your lunch to the garbage, while we force-feed you things we determine to be good for you…

Via The Civitas Institute:

A mother in Hoke County complains her daughter was forced to eat a school lunch because a government inspector determined her home-made lunch did not meet nutrition requirements. In fact, all of the students in the NC Pre-K program classroom at West Hoke Elementary School in Raeford had to accept a school lunch in addition to their lunches brought from home.

NC Pre-K (before this year known as More at Four) is a state-funded education program designed to “enhance school readiness” for four year-olds.

The mother, who doesn’t wish to be identified at this time, says she made her daughter a lunch that contained a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice and potato chips. A state inspector assessing the pre-K program at the school said the girl also needed a vegetable, so the inspector ordered a full school lunch tray for her. While the four-year-old was still allowed to eat her home lunch, the girl was forced to take a helping of chicken nuggets, milk, a fruit and a vegetable to supplement her sack lunch.

And this pretty much sums it up right here…

The mother, who lives in Fayetteville, sent a statement to state Rep. G.L. Pridgen (R-Robeson) detailing her complaint. Pridgen says he was shocked to hear it. Pridgen has since learned this is a nationwide practice based on federal guidelines.

An assistant to Pridgen says the girl’s grandmother was also upset and asked, “This isn’t China, is it?”

Not yet, but you can see it from here.

Read the rest, especially if you’re a parent…

Slow News Day: Washington Post Article Defends Michelle Obama’s Backside

January 3, 2012 at 2:52 pm (Jim Sensenbrenner, Large Posterior, Laura Bush, Let's Move, Michelle Obama, Washington Post)

Is there really nothing else of importance going on in the world (h/t Weasel Zippers)?

From the Washington Post:

Can you imagine how the incident would play out if an African American congressman made a crude remark about First Lady Laura Bush’s body? It certainly would have taken more than an insincere apology to wash that sin away. That scenario never happened —hopefully because those congressmen were raised with a measure of common decency. I know that America’s first family – an image this country presents to the world — is traditionally granted a certain amount of respect across party lines.

They are of course referring to Wisconsin Republican congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, who was recently overheard criticizing Michelle Obama’s healthy eating initiative: “She lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself.”

Why would someone be so cruel as to insult the first lady?

Why they’re racist, of course!

Not only is this disrespect crude, it also proves yet again that you can’t go wrong disrespecting a black woman in the United States of America, even if she lives in the White House – and in some constituencies, especially if she lives in the White House. Sensenbrenner’s nasty rant made me sick and sad because it brings to the surface the ugly history of how black women are viewed in America, stereotyped and dehumanized, our bodies everyone’s business except our own.

The article then goes on to paint Sensenbrenner as some sort of psychotic stalker.

What in the world is Sensenbrenner doing staring at the First Lady –not as a person but as a specimen, each part an item on an anatomical checklist? He doesn’t approve of what he’s seeing but he can’t keep his eyes off of her. It’s creepy but unfortunately familiar, the way he devalues black beauty while being mesmerized by it.

I seriously doubt Sensenbrenner is ‘mesmerized’ by Michelle Obama’s backside.

What do you think?
