Benghazi: Is the President Running Out the Clock Until Election Day?

November 1, 2012 at 9:02 pm (2012 Election, Benghazi, Cover Up, Darrell Issa, Drip, Jake Tapper, Jason Chaffetz, President Obama, Run Out the Clock, September 11th, State Department, Task Force, Terrorism)

Sorry, Mr. President, but your time is just about up.

ABC’s Jake Tapper wrote a post today in which he mentions that critics think the President is simply trying to run out the clock on Benghazi.

Via Political Punch:

As he left his Marine One helicopter Wednesday evening and walked to the residence of the White House, President Obama did not respond to a question shouted out by ABC News’s Mary Bruce about when he would begin to provide answers to the numerous questions building up about what exactly what went wrong in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012.

The president smiled and continued walking.

Perhaps he couldn’t hear the question over the din of the chopper’s blades, but either way the smile and wave – almost Reagan-esque in style – underline the apparent strategy the president specifically and his administration in general have seemed to adopt when it comes to the myriad inquiries about the decisions that led to the deaths of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens: they are deferring detailed answers to the investigation and – critics say –running out the clock until Election Day.

Unfortunately, the strategy of running out the clock may not be working.

More stunning details about the attack are coming forward.  A Daily Beast report by Eli Lake indicates that two separate U.S. officials claimed the State Department never made a request made for military backup that night.

Additionally, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are investigating whether the Government of Libya, the one ushered into power with the aide of the U.S., may have been involved in the plot that eventually killed four Americans.

Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and National Security Subcommittee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) today sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pressing for answers after documents first disclosed by Foreign Policy indicate the possible involvement of Government of Libya personnel in what was clearly a preplanned assault.  According to the letter sent by the two Congressional oversight leaders:
These documents paint a disturbing picture indicating that elements of the Libyan government might have been complicit in the September 11, 2012 attack on the compound and the murder of four Americans.  It also reiterates the fact that the U.S. government may have had evidence indicating that the attack was not a spontaneous event but rather a preplanned terrorist attack that included prior surveillance of the compound as a target.
Given the location where they were found, these documents appear to be genuine and support a growing body of evidence indicating that the Obama Administration has tried to withhold pertinent facts about the 9/11 anniversary attack from Congress and the American people.
The documents are fully consistent with the Committee’s understanding of events that took place before and during the attack on the compound and include new details not previously released to the public.  The letters ask the State Department whether the information included in the letters discussed above was memorialized in any cables, telegrams or e-mails prior to the attack or in any post-attack review.
Click here for a copy of the Issa/Chaffetz letter to Secretary Clinton that includes the new documents obtained by Foreign Policy.

Worse yet, CBS is reporting that a key task force on counter-terrorism was not convened by the Obama administration.

CBS News has learned that during the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, the Obama Administration did not convene its top interagency counterterrorism resource: the Counterterrorism Security Group, (CSG).

“The CSG is the one group that’s supposed to know what resources every agency has. They know of multiple options and have the ability to coordinate counterterrorism assets across all the agencies,” a high-ranking government official told CBS News. “They were not allowed to do their job. They were not called upon.”

Information shared with CBS News from top counterterrorism sources in the government and military reveal keen frustration over the U.S. response on Sept. 11, the night ambassador Chris Stevens and 3 other Americans were killed in a coordinated attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya.

The circumstances of the attack, including the intelligence and security situation there, will be the subject of a Senate Intelligence Committee closed hearing on Nov. 15, with additional hearings to follow.

Flashback to September 10th…

On September 10, 2012, The Associated Press Reported That “President Barack Obama Has Been Briefed By His Top National Security Aides On The Government’s Preparedness Ahead For The 11th Anniversary Of The Sept. 11 Attacks.”

“President Barack Obama has been briefed by his top national security aides on the government’s preparedness ahead of the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The White House said Monday the president and his advisers discussed specific measures the administration was taking to prevent 9/11-related attacks. They also discussed steps that were being taken to protect Americans abroad and U.S. forces serving in combat zones.”

Please check out this timeline of events in Benghazi and Washington running side-by-side, as provided by Doug Ross.

The one part that stands out to me is –

9/11/2012 22:00 Hillary Clinton blames internet video for violence.

Six hours later…

9/12/2012 4:00 Doherty and Woods killed on roof of annex.

They had time to concoct the video fairy tale, but didn’t have time to take military action to possibly aide the two Navy SEALs who died 6 hours later.  Unreal.

The actions of the administration – or inactions – at the very least exacerbated the success at which the terrorists carried out their attacks.  The subsequent cover up was downright criminal.

And while the White House would like to run out the clock until the election, the slow drip-drip-drip of information coming out of Benghazi, provided by the few real journalists remaining in media, may cause them to bleed out.

Feel Good Story: Firefighters Revive Korean War Vet at 9/11 Ceremony

September 22, 2012 at 11:00 am (9/11, Congress Park, Eugene Corsale, Firefighters, Hero, Heroes, Korean War, New York, Saratoga Springs, September 11th, Veteran)

A Korean War Veteran is crediting the swift actions of local firefighters in Saratoga Springs, NY with saving his life after he collapsed while serving as Master of Ceremonies at a 9/11 Remembrance Day event.

Eugene “Gene” Corsale remembers reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before collapsing at the podium in front of his grandson.  His heart had stopped.

“I was ready to introduce the police, and that was the end of it,” he said. “I woke up in the emergency room.”

Despite the experience, Corsale insists that he was lucky.

Via the Times Union:

Looking back, the 2008 New York State Veteran of the Year says his heart picked a fine time to stop ticking. Attending the 9/11 service to recall those lost in the terrorist attacks of 11 years ago were members of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department, who had brought a truck with medical equipment.

When Corsale collapsed, the firefighters broke ranks and sprang into action. When they reached Corsale with a heart monitor, they found he had no pulse, Chief Robert Williams said Friday. The firefighters administered manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation, electric shocks to Corsale’s chest with a heart defibrillator and medications, which restarted his heart, Williams said.

“We were able to get him to where he had a strong pulse and he was beginning to respond to his name,” said Williams, who was at the scene. “He had the right people and the right equipment close by,” Williams said.

At the scene and credited for quick thinking and transporting Corsale to the hospital were Capt. Robert Murphy, lieutenants John Stewart and Michael Woodcock, and firefighters Michael O’Reilly, Jason Yourdon, Brian Kissinger, Jack Longo, Nicholas Colucci, Jeffrey Alonzo, Jordan Daviero and Matthew Daviero.

Please read the rest, including a brief history of Corsale’s service to his country in the Navy, and his service to fellow veterans after the war.

America Attacked Again on 9/11 … and We Apologize?

September 12, 2012 at 9:00 am (9/11, Apology, Appeasement, Cairo, Christopher Stevens, Egypt, Embassy, Islam, Libya, Political Correctness, President Obama, Radical Islam, Religious Extremism, September 11th, Terrorism, Terrorists)

The same Egyptian protesters that President Obama was more than willing to support during the so-called Arab Spring, mounted an unprecedented attack on an American Embassy in Cairo yesterday.

CNN reported:

Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and hauled down its American flags, replacing them with black flags with Islamic emblems.

The incident prompted U.S. security guards to fire off a volley of warning shots as a large crowd gathered outside, apparently upset about the production of a Dutch film thought to insult the Prophet Mohammed, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene.

An embassy operator told CNN that the facility had been cleared of diplomatic personnel earlier Tuesday, ahead of the apparent threat, while Egyptian riot police were called to help secure the embassy walls.

An embassy in Libya was also attacked.

Protesters angry over an amateurish American-made video denouncing Islam attacked the United States Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Tuesday, killing a State Department officer, while Egyptian demonstrators stormed over the fortified walls of the United States Embassy here.

On the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, the assaults were a violent reminder that the changes sweeping the region have hardly dispelled the rage against the United States that still smolders in pockets around the Arab world.

The results?  Multiple Americans were shot, while others were the victims of a rocket attack that killed the U.S. Ambassador to Libya.

The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff were killed in a rocket attack on their car, a Libyan official said, as they were rushed from a consular building stormed by militants denouncing a U.S.-made film insulting the Prophet Mohammad.

Gunmen had attacked and burned the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi, a center of last year’s uprising against Muammar Gaddafi, late on Tuesday evening, killing one U.S. consular official. The building was evacuated.

The Libyan official said the ambassador, Christopher Stevens, was being driven from the consulate building to a safer location when gunmen opened fire.

Believe it or not, the response coming from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo included an apology to the extremists who had carried out the attack.

I’m going to say that again.

The Obama administration apologized to terrorists who had burned down sovereign American buildings and killed an American citizen.

The statement from the Embassy in Cairo actually apologized for “religious incitement” and for “hurting the religious feelings of Muslims”.

I wish I was making that up.  Here is the statement:

Have you ever in your life thought, after two U.S. embassies were attacked and seized by radical Islamists, in which multiple Americans were shot – one fatally – and an embassy was nearly burned to the ground, exactly 11 years to the day after the worst terrorist attack in American history perpetrated by similar radical Islamists, that you would ever see an administration actually issue an apology for ‘hurting the religious feelings of Muslims’?

Oh I know they’re trying to walk it back now, but weakness has already been shown. This will go down as the single most cowardly and disgraceful response to an attack on the fundamental American right of free speech in modern history.

Worse, it crossed the bounds of a mere protest when an American was shot and killed. It is a terrorist attack. And we apologized.

President ‘Gutsy Call’ is now officially operating under a foreign policy platform in which we as a nation are subservient to terrorism and slaves to appeasement.

Indeed, the administration is working fervently to backpedal on the apology, 17 hours after the fact.  But the damage is done.

Via Politico:

The Obama administration is disavowing a statement from its own Cairo embassy that seemed to apologize for anti-Muslim activity in the United States.

“The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government,” an administration official told POLITICO.

The embassy came under widespread criticism for failing to defend free speech in the face of threats of violence. Egyptian protesters rioted anyway, breaching the embassy walls and tearing down the American flag.

The criticism has been warranted.  This may go down as one of the most embarrassing days in foreign policy history, and proves that having ‘we killed Osama bin laden’ as your biggest foreign policy platform isn’t enough.  Amateur hour in the White House needs to end in November.

Disgrace: President on "Pimp With The Limp" Show to Campaign on 9/11

September 12, 2012 at 7:00 am (9/11, Disgrace, DJ Laz, Lazaro Mendez, Medicare, Mitt Romney, Pimp With the Limp, President Obama, September 11th)

President Obama and Mitt Romney agreed to pull campaign ads on the 11-year anniversary of 9/11, in an attempt to quiet negative political conversations on a solemn day.

But that didn’t stop the President from making a complete ass of himself regardless, begging for volunteers and chatting it up on the airwaves with a hip hop DJ that goes by the name of “Pimp With the Limp”, a man previously charged with a felony weapons charges in 1993.

The President is a disgrace.

It started yesterday morning with Mitt Romney issuing this tweet (h/t Jammie Wearing Fools):

The President also decided to remember ‘this most somber day’, but in a vastly different manner:
That, if you can believe it, was the only tweet from Obama’s feed on 9/11 until well into the afternoon.  When conservative blogs such as JWF and Twitchy noticed, only then was another statement released.
As pathetic as that was, it does not compare to this…
Via the PJ Tatler:

Today, the same day that his twitter feed failed to acknowledge 9-11 at all and the same day that Egyptian protesters assaulted the US embassy in Cairo, the same day that the White House refused a meeting with the Prime Minister of Israel at the end of the month, President Obama took time out of his very busy schedule to do an interview with Miami’s DZ Laz aka “the Pimp with the Limp.”

Here is the audio clip:

The Miami Herald reports that the supposedly muted political day included Medi-scare tactics, claiming that the repeal of Obamacare would cause Medicare to go bankrupt.

Laz even got false ones.

For instance, Obama said that repealing Obamacare, which cut Medicare and helped extend the life of the program by eight years,  would cause the program to go “bankrupt by 2016.”

That’s not really true. If the cuts were repealed, a main hospital trust fund for Medicare would start to take in less than it pays out. But that’s not bankruptcy.

On the whole, Obama stayed on message, dropped a few pop culture references and reached an audience that seldom pays close attention to politics. He also avoided talking about 9/11 on 9/11’s anniversary, but** made time to mock the Dolphins bad record.

The Laz being referred to in the opening sentence is the “pimp with the limp’s” other radio name, DJ Laz.  DJ Laz has the given name, Lazaro Mendez.
Mendez himself gave an interview last year in which he discussed such noble causes as underage drinking and drinking on the job.
Mendez was also hit with a felony weapons charge in 1993, and was charged with petit larceny in 1997.
And more recently, one of Mendez guns was used in the murder-suicide of an associate, his associate’s wife, and her mother.
Despite both campaigns pledging not to play politics on the anniversary of 9/11, the President opted to attack Mitt Romney on a Florida hip hop station with a DJ that has a lengthy rap sheet, lying about the Romney/Ryan Medicare reform plan, and conducting negative campaigning on a day the country should have set aside politics.
This is, in a word, disgraceful.

The Luckiest – How 9/11 Saved My Life

September 11, 2012 at 8:46 am (9/11, Abortion, Heroes, September 11th, The Luckiest)

For many, Sept. 11, 2001, was a day that will forever be seared into the minds of those who were witness. On that day, the nation was awoken by a harsh reality that there are people who want nothing more than to destroy our freedom, our way of life. That morning, America was brutally scarred for life. It was a day that 19 hijackers, four airplanes, two towers, and one deranged ideology brought the threat of terrorism to the forefront in our country.

For when we think of 9/11, many things understandably come to mind. We think of death – the sheer number of Americans killed that day was staggering. We think of terrorists. We think of tragedy, of loss, of hopelessness. We remember watching over 3,000 of our friends and family dying that day, we remember the screams of the heroes on Flight 93, the screams of women and men, mothers and fathers, wives and husbands, who desperately made an attempt to take back a plane scheduled for a suicide mission which surely would have killed many more.

I always have one other thought however – I think of life, and how mine began that day.

In a powerful speech a couple of years ago, Sarah Palin framed the upcoming elections using an issue sometimes relegated to the backburner during turbulent economic times – abortion. According to her, the elections boiled down to candidates who favor a ‘culture of life’, and those who promote a ‘culture of death’.

There are several arguments made by those supporting legalized abortion, the health of mother and child, and cases of rape and incest being what resonates with most. Polling suggests that a very small fraction of abortions are performed for these extreme reasons. Problems arise mostly in those who view abortion as a matter of social and economic convenience. Herein lies a fundamental flaw with the pro-choice argument; a struggle to acknowledge the fact that a human life begins at conception, and that same life is not an inconvenience but rather, a necessity.

This has been a concept that I, myself, once struggled with. Exactly eleven years ago that personal struggle ended. For Americans, 9/11 has a singular tragic meaning related to the events we endured as a nation. For one man, it also served as an awakening; a transformation from a ‘culture of death’ mentality, to a conservative embracement of life.

The year prior to 9/11, when word was received of the pending birth of my first child, my reaction, much like the autumn breeze, was a bit chilly. I went so far as to heavily promote the idea of an abortion to my girlfriend. I had failed to recognize the value of life, and though my girlfriend fortunately had, she was unable to instill this in me.

Recognizing that this disagreement was going nowhere, my next move was one that would make any self-respecting coward proud – I ran. Frightened. From responsibility, from acceptance of my actions, from hard work, from any semblance of religious or family values, and the sanctity of life – I ran.

The summer of ‘01 arrived, along with the birth of my daughter, an event that I did not witness. The burden of knowing that I was a father, but was not acting as such, weighed heavily on my mind. Yet still, I took no action.

On September 11th, I drove home from work, having been released early due to the attack and subsequent security concerns. While driving home on the highway, mind numb in trying to process the day’s events, I passed under a bridge. Looking up, there was a man who looked more than a bit ragged, as if he had just awakened to hear the news of the attacks, and simply walked out of his house. Wearing disheveled clothes and a weary face, he somehow found himself standing on this bridge, arms raised skyward, holding the American flag.

Nearly four hours later, needing to clear my head, I decided to get back in my car and take a drive. My route brought me to that same highway, with that same bridge. Four hours later, the same man was still standing there, holding the flag up as high as he possibly could.

I broke down.

Here was a man who had reacted to the carnage witnessed earlier in the day by standing on a bridge and simply raising a flag for hours. It seemed he had no idea what to do, while simultaneously knowing that he had to do something. There were parallels to be drawn with my own situation. Now – finally – I had to do something.

Shortly afterward, I brought my daughter home for the first time. I sat alone with her in a recliner in my apartment, when she began to cry. Her father was truly petrified, as nothing was putting this baby at ease. Thinking back to the man on the bridge once more, I knew that I had to do something.

Just then, a frightened man with a wretched voice began to sing. The song was The Luckiest, by Ben Folds, and it meant the world to this little girl. If the song stopped for even an instant, she would begin to cry again. She needed me to sing that song for her in that moment. She needed me to embrace her, but nowhere near as much as her father needed the same. The ‘culture of life’ had found us both. And on that day, I had become – The Luckiest.

Abortion should not be wielded as a weapon of convenience, something I was guilty of doing. And life does indeed begin at conception, not solely for the child, but possibly, as in this case, for the mother and father as well.

Embracing the ‘culture of life’ allows one to understand what it feels like to actually live. To know what it feels like to have a morning begin with a child’s sticky kisses. To realize that the incessant racket of a child’s rattle can be the sweetest sound. To experience that moment of clarity where working overtime on that crucial project no longer makes sense, but watching your child chewing on her favorite crayons does.

With that, we remember the fallen that perished on this day. We remember the servicemen and women who continue to fight for the freedoms that we took for granted 11 years ago. We remember because we must never forget.

And now, I have the opportunity to reflect back on this day together with my eleven-year old daughter and realize that I am indeed – The Luckiest.

Piece of the World Trade Center Comes to Troy, New York

September 1, 2012 at 11:30 am (James Gordon, Lansingburgh, Memorial Park, New York, September 11th, Troy)

In a city living in the shadow of Albany’s government corruption, a city which itself has dealt with a dark political landscape of voter fraud charges and allegations, and a city which has endured a scourge of recent shootings and homicides, it’s nice to see Troy, New York get a little recognition for a positive story.

The September 11th Memorial Park in Troy, more specifically, Lansingburgh, will finally be able to add a piece of the actual World Trade Center buildings to its memorial.  The piece will be installed just in time for the park’s ceremony being held on September 9th.

After a couple of years’ worth of hard work and anxiety, the Troy September 11th Memorial Committee will finally be able to add a piece of the World Trade Center buildings to its memorial just in time for its Sept. 9 ceremony.

The committee has acquired a 110 lb. steel section of the I-beam from one of the Twin Towers. Coordinating Committee Chairman Jim Gordon said that a welder is working on the piece which will be installed in the memorial on Thursday.

Gordon said it was a long and somewhat stressful wait before the committee received confirmation that it would be getting the steel. A press release was put out more than a year ago soliciting requests for the pieces of steel to be incorporated into memorials worldwide. Gordon said the committee applied right away as there were plans to build a memorial in Troy to honor the various first responders from Rensselaer County who went to ground zero.

The entire project has been funded through private donations and means.  Jim Gordon, Chairman of the Memorial Committee explained, “To date, between in-kind gifts and monetary donations, we’ve had $25,000 to $30,000 donated to us”.

The park broke ground in July of 2011, with a goal of not only honoring the memories of those who were killed on 9/11, but those heroes who responded to the emergency situation we all watched that day.  Gordon explained at the groundbreaking that, “People know the city of Troy as a patriotic city, the home of Uncle Sam.”

And now the city can be known for its dedication to the memory of that September 11th tragedy, an attack on America and an attack on freedom.

“This project, for a lot of us, is three or four years in the making,” Gordon said. “There will always be maintenance that needs to be done and all involved have worked many hours, days and nights raising money and working. Now it’s coming to an end with a very significant exclamation point with this 110 lb. piece of steel.”

And what an exclamation point it is.

Though, with the memories being provided by the park, and the sense of community pride it instills, this is by no means an end to the story.

Many thanks to all those involved in this project, and many congratulations to the people of Troy.

Shades of 9/11? TSA Allows Illegal Aliens to Attend Flight School Owned By Illegal Alien

July 19, 2012 at 9:00 am (9/11, Flying Lessons, Illegal Aliens, Illegal Aliens Attend Flight School, Illegal Immigrants, Janet Napolitano, Massachusetts, Pilot License, September 11th, Transportation Security Administration, TSA, WTF)

If you thought a story from earlier this week that 9/11 terrorists had won the right to postpone their trial due to religious consideration was insane, then you’re going to love this story.

Filed here under, WTF?

The government organization known as the TSA, charged with securing airports and preventing terrorist attacks similar to 9/11, has been allowing illegal aliens to take flying lessons at a flight school owned by an illegal alien.

CNS News reports:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved flight training for 25 illegal aliens at a Boston-area flight school that was owned by yet another illegal alien, according to the Government Accountability Office.

The illegal-alien flight-school attendees included eight who had entered the country illegally and 17 who had overstayed their allowed period of admission into the United States, according to an audit by the GAO.

Six of the illegal aliens were actually able to get pilot’s licenses.

So while TSA agents are actively scouring crotches in every major airport in the nation, pulling 80-year-old women aside, accosting 4-year-olds for allegedly harboring guns, and dragging disabled children aside for interrogation, potential terrorists have been roaming the skies freely, honing their craft in a potential steel missile.

Now where have we heard of this before?  Oh, right … 9/11.  Oh right … this guy …

The worst terrorist attack on American soil in history, and our government hasn’t learned that lesson.

All-American Blogger writes:

What in the world is going on in the Transportation Security Agency? How do you not only know about this and not send in Janet Napolitano and Janet Reno over to give the group the Waco treatment?

How can these incompetent nitwits claim to be keeping the skies safe? How can the look the American public in the eye and tell them another Mohammed Atta isn’t training for another 9/11 style attack in America today?

He is right, of course.  Nobody in this administration can tell the American people that they are safe in light of this news.

The report itself confirms this:

Stephen Lord, who is the GAO’s director of Homeland Security and Justice Issues, testified about the matter Wednesday in Rogers’ subcommittee. Rogers asked him: “Isn’t it true that, based on your report, the Transportation Security Administration cannot assure the American people that foreign terrorists are not in this country learning how to fly airplanes, yes or no?”

Lord responded: “At this time, no.”

Although the illegal alien who owned the Massachusetts flight school had not undergone a required TSA security threat assessment and had not been approved for flight training by the agency, he nonetheless held two Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot licenses, also known as FAA certificates.

Somebody needs to be fired over this.  Unlike that other major national security scandal Fast and Furious, somebody needs to be held accountable.  And it starts at the top.

The Terrorists Win: Judge Agrees to Postpone 9/11 Plotters Trial Until After Ramadan

July 16, 2012 at 4:28 pm (9/11, Guantanamo Bay, James Connell, James Pohl, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Military Trial, September 11th, Terrorism, Terrorist, Terrorists Win, World Trade Center)

Last week, we reported on the outrageous demand being made by September 11th mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, and four other defendants involved in the terror plot, requesting that their August hearing in Guantanamo be postponed because it falls toward the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The request led Pamela Geller to write:

Let me get this straight. We are supposed to postpone the 911 tribunals out of respect and deference to the very ideology that inspired the mass murderous Islamic attacks of 9/11. Someone pinch me. This is a nightmare.

Ramadan is exactly when these jihadist savages should be put on trial and sentenced to death.

I also added:

I’ll go one step further.  Their deaths should be televised live on Pay-Per-View, with the proceeds going to the victims families … it should be televised on the first day of Ramadan, and rerun every day until the end of Ramadan.

As infuriating as it was to hear these terror masterminds play the military court system by making such a demand, here is an even more infuriating update – the judge has granted their request.

A U.S. military judge agreed Monday to postpone the next court hearings at the Guantanamo Bay prison for five men charged in the Sept. 11 attacks to avoid a conflict with the Muslim holy period of Ramadan.

The judge issued a short order postponing the next pretrial hearings at the U.S. base in Cuba until Aug. 22-26 at the request of all five defendants, said James Connell, a lawyer for one of the accused.

The hearings had been scheduled to run from Aug. 8-12, which fall during the last 10 days of Ramadan, a period in which devout Muslims fast during the day and pray during the night. That would make it difficult for the accused to participate in their defense, said Connell, a lawyer for Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali.

“It’s very difficult to pay attention to sometimes intricate legal proceedings when you haven’t had any sleep and you haven’t had any food,” Connell said.

The judge, Army Col. James Pohl, denied a defense request not to hold any future hearings in the case on Fridays, a day on which many Muslims do not work and his order does not mention what will happen if future hearings fall during the month of Ramadan. The judge did not explain his decisions in the brief ruling.

Eleven years after these men plotted to kill thousands of innocent Americans, they have not been convicted of their crime and in fact, continue to manipulate the system.

The terrorists have truly won.

Outrage: 9/11 Terrorists Demand Their Trial Be Postponed Due to Ramadan

July 11, 2012 at 6:51 am (9/11, Guantanamo Bay, James Connell, James Pohl, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Radical Islam, September 11th, Terrorists)

Exactly who the hell is asking these people for their opinion on this anyway?

The Miami Herald is reporting that September 11th mastermind, Khalid Sheik Mohammad, and four other defendants, would like to postpone their August hearing at Guantanamo because it falls toward the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The trial judge, Army Col. James Pohl, set the date for the hearing in May and specifically ruled out an extension on grounds that it coincided with Islam’s fasting month. He noted in his order then that no defense lawyer at that point had raised objection to a hearing that coincided with Ramadan.

But the attorneys do just that in a June 21 filing currently under seal on the Pentagon’s war court website entitled “Joint Defense Motion for the Military Commission to Respect the Religious Observances of Enemy Prisoners under Common Article 3.”

Pohl is hearing motions in another Guantánamo case next week. But that hearing ends by July 19, before Ramadan starts. The 9/11 case pre-trial motions would be heard toward the end of Ramadan.

“The last 10 days of Ramadan commemorate the night God —Allah— revealed the Holy Quran to the Prophet Mohammed,” said James Connell III, the Pentagon-paid defense counsel for Mohammed’s nephew, Ammar al Baluchi. “These 10 days are the most holy period of the Muslim calendar and are typically observed by fasting, prayer, and seclusion.”

Pamela Geller writes:

Let me get this straight. We are supposed to postpone the 911 tribunals out of respect and deference to the very ideology that inspired the mass murderous Islamic attacks of 9/11. Someone pinch me. This is a nightmare.

Ramadan is exactly when these jihadist savages should be put on trial and sentenced to death.

I’ll go one step further.  Their deaths should be televised live on Pay-Per-View, with the proceeds going to the victims families … it should be televised on the first day of Ramadan, and rerun every day until the end of Ramadan.

World Trade Center Building to Become Tallest in New York Today

April 30, 2012 at 7:08 am (1 World Trade Center, 9/11, New York, Osama Bin laden, September 11th, World Trade Center, WTC)

Update:  One World Trade Center stands above the rest!

Construction efforts down at the World Trade Center site are scheduled to reach a major milestone sometime this afternoon – roughly one year after the death of September 11th mastermind, Osama bin laden.

From the New York Times:

If the winds are forgiving enough over Lower Manhattan — up where workers can see the whole outline of the island’s tip — a steel column will be hoisted into place Monday afternoon atop the exoskeleton of 1 World Trade Center and New York will have a new tallest building.
More important, downtown will have reclaimed its pole star.
Poking into the sky, the first column of the 100th floor of 1 World Trade Center will bring the tower to a height of 1,271 feet, making it 21 feet higher than the Empire State Building.

A tower has again become an inescapable presence at the southern end of Manhattan.

From a construction point of view, the completion of the framework, known as the topping out, will be a more significant milestone.
