Obama Provides Free Parking For Ahmadinejad’s ‘Iran Air’ Plane

September 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm (Benjamin Netanyahu, Iran, Iran Air, Israel, Joint Base Andrews, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President Obama, The View, United Nations, Washington)

It’s a Presidential love triangle gone awry.  While Obama has openly dumped one of our most important ally’s in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for an appearance with the ladies of The View, he has also been showering Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with gifts – such as free parking for his Boeing 747 in Washington.

The plane, named “Iran Air”, exchanged fleeting glances with the President’s plane.

Via the Washington Post:

Free parking is hard to find in Washington — but not, apparently, for the Boeing 747 that ferried Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to this week’s United Nations General Assembly gathering in New York.

That plane, emblazoned with the “Iran Air” logo, was parked Wednesday at Joint Base Andrews — the same air field where Air Force One is stored. In fact, President Obama taxied past the Iranian jet on his way to two campaign events in Ohio.

Awww…  How sweet.

Treasury Department Ignoring President’s Order to Fly Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Astronaut Neil Armstrong?

August 31, 2012 at 1:51 pm (Astronaut, D.C., Half-Staff, Hero, Heroes, Moon, Neil Armstrong, President Obama, Treasury Department, Washington)

The Treasury building in downtown Washington D.C. typically heeds the order to fly flags at half-staff to honor those who have died.  The President recently issued an order to have flags flown at half-staff to honor national treasure and first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong.

Via Troop 903 (please read their writeup on the career of Neil Armstrong):

Flags across the nation are flying at half staff today in memory of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the moon.

Armstrong died last Saturday at age 82. President Obama issued a proclamation Monday ordering U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff at all public buildings and facilities until sunset today, “as a mark of respect for the memory of Neil Armstrong” on the day of his interment.

The Treasury Department however, may not have received that notice.

That photo is courtesy of Jeff Quinton.  He explains in further detail at the Quinton Report:

This picture was taken around 1 p.m. ET on Friday, August 31, 2012.

This flag is at the rear of the Treasury Building in downtown Washington, DC. This picture is looking across 15th St. from F St.

This flag has always been half-staffed when other half-staffing orders were issued by the President, but not today.

Is it plausible that this is simple human error?  How would those responsible for the caretaking of the flag not have missed such an order?

Somebody has some explaining to do.

Yahoo News Chief Caught Saying Romneys "Happy to Have a Party When Black People Drown" Update: Fired!

August 29, 2012 at 1:05 pm (ABC News, Ann Romney, Black People Drown, David Chalian, Mitt Romney, Racism, Republican National Convention, Tampa, Washington, Yahoo)

This is the prevailing attitude of your modern mainstream media.  Presented without much commentary, as it pretty much speaks for itself.

Via NewsBusters:

During live coverage of the Republican National Convention here in Tampa, Yahoo News Washington bureau chief David Chalian provided the perfect example of the pervasive anti-Republican bias Mitt Romney faces in his bid to unseat President Barack Obama.

In video broadcast Monday night by ABC and Yahoo over the Internet, Chalian can be heard claiming that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann are unconcerned about the fate of residents of the New Orleans area who are currently being hit by Hurricane Isaac.

“They aren’t concerned at all,” Chalian can be heard on the live broadcast. “They are happy to have a party when black people drown.”

That line elicits laughter from several employees listening in on the joke.

Well that didn’t take long.  Chalian has been fired effective immediately.
Politico reports:

“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!.  He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”

I’m certain there’s an opening for him at MSNBC.

Independents Rally Around Romney/Ryan in Key Swing States

August 15, 2012 at 6:00 pm (2012 Election, Daily Kos, Independents, Markos Moulitsas, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Swing States, Washington)

Had to laugh at this e-mail sent out by Daily Kos founder, Markos Moulitsas:

Rusty, Mitt Romney is at the breaking point:

  • Romney’s allies in conservative Super PACs have spent over $100 million attacking President Obama, but the president has been resilient, retaining his lead in both national and swing state polls.
  • Republican political operatives are panicking over Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan, who has given Romney virtually no bounce and has been widely panned in key states like Florida.

Unfortunately, that was received right after Romney’s rapid response team released information regarding a poll conducted by Purple Strategies – a bipartisan polling company that prides itself on merging red and blue firms to create one purple entity.

Turns out, just about everything the Kos is selling is the exact opposite of reality.  But then, that’s what makes them the liberal hacks they are.  Obama is not retaining his lead in swing states – Romney now leads in 3 of 4 key swing states (Ohio, Virginia, and Florida).

Amidst the bedwetting from the consultant class in DC over Romney/ Ryan taking on Obama and the Democrats on Medicare, a new independent, Purple Strategies poll conducted after Ryan’s selection shows independents surging behind Romney/ Ryan.

Full results and summary are below.  While Romney leads in 3 of 4 swing states, the MOST important of the poll’s finding is this:

“By a 6-point margin, voters in these key swing states believe that Romney and Ryan are more likely ‘to bring real change to Washington,’ a margin that is +17 among independents”

The complete polling data has been uploaded below…

Ronald Reagan’s Blood Being Sold At Auction

May 22, 2012 at 4:23 pm (1981, Assassination Attempt, BBC News, Blood, Kylie Whitehead, Ronald Reagan, Ronald Reagan Foundation, Vial, Washington)

Who exactly is in the market for this?  Unless … unless, somebody plans to clone him and replace Mitt Romney on the ticket…

Hmmm.

Via the AP:

A Channel Islands online auction house has angered Ronald Reagan’s foundation by claiming to offer a vial that once contained his blood.

The PFCAuctions house says the vial contains some of Reagan’s dried blood residue. The auctioneers say it was used by the laboratory that tested Reagan’s blood when he was hospitalized after a 1981 assassination attempt in Washington.

Officials at the Ronald Reagan Foundation in California have told BBC News that the sale is despicable.

Auction house spokeswoman Kylie Whitehead told The Associated Press that the blood is being sold by a man whose late mother took it from the laboratory with permission weeks after the tests were made.

Bidding for the vial had passed the 7,000-pound ($11,000) mark Tuesday.

Currently, the leading bid stands closer to the equivalent of $15,000.

Here is the auction posting…

And here is the image of your prize if you happen to have several grand laying around:

Reuters reports that an investigation is underway as to how somebody ended up with the vial in the first place.
The Ronald Reagan Foundation as you can imagine, is outraged:

Ronald Reagan’s foundation expressed outrage on Monday at a British company’s auction of what it says is a vial of the late U.S. president’s blood taken at the hospital where he was treated after a 1981 assassination attempt.

“If indeed this story is true, it’s a craven act and we will use every legal means to stop its sale or purchase,” John Heubusch, executive director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, said in a statement.

At the very least, the story is bizarre…

Defense Bill Amendment Grants Full Legal Rights … To Terrorists

May 16, 2012 at 4:07 pm (Adam Smith, Court, David Rivkin, Defense Bill Amendment, Justin Amash, Legal System, Michigan, Terrorists, War on Terror, Washington)

This is the stuff of parallel universes…

Washington Free Beacon:

Former government attorneys and defense experts fear that foreign terrorists could capitalize on a new House proposal that would afford them full protection under the U.S. legal system, potentially spurring a domestic influx of would-be terrorists who may seek to exploit the legal loophole.

The amendment, spearheaded by Reps. Justin Amash (R., Mich.) and Adam Smith (D., Wash), would implement an unprecedented reversal in longstanding U.S. policy by requiring that terrorists be prosecuted in civilian courts—a shift that would also allow them to be housed among general inmates in American prisons.

The amendment would prevent the president from effectively fighting the war on terror, thereby posing a serious threat to the country’s national security, experts warn.

“In order to be able to successfully fight and win this war, we need to support the notion that this is a real war,” said David Rivkin, who provided legal counsel in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. “Anything that delegitimizes the laws of war is a horrible thing symbolically in terms of undermining a fragile consensus.”

Smith and Amash, Rivkin said, are unraveling a delicate legal balance that permits the president to effectively “fight and win” the war on terror.

Winning the war on terror is clearly not a priority any longer.  Keeping things PC with our enemies is job number one.

Our representatives in government are severely undermining their own country, and the men and women who fight on Obama’s behalf.

Obama Instructs Media Cheerleaders On How to Properly do Their Job

April 4, 2012 at 1:00 pm (2012 Election, Journalism, Media Bias, President Obama, Reporting, Washington)

Their leader has spoken…

Via Gateway Pundit:

Our most benevolent leader, Barack Obama, instructed the lapdog media yesterday on how to report on his radical positions. No doubt, they took notes.

I always assumed they held meetings like this behind closed doors anyway…

Transcript via Real Clear Politics:

“This bears on your reporting,” President Obama said to journalists. “I think that there is oftentimes the impulse to suggest that if the two parties are disagreeing then they’re equally at fault and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. And an equivalence is presented which I think reinforces peoples’ cynicism about Washington in general. This is not one of those situations where there’s an equivalency.”

“As all of you are doing your reporting, I think it’s important to remember that the positions that I am taking now on the budget and a host of other issues. if we had been having this discussion 20 years ago or even 15 years ago … would’ve been considered squarely centrist positions,” Obama said a few moments later.

Is he concerned that their portrayal of him as a competent leader is starting to trail off?  When the election draws closer, they will be fawning all over the chosen one as they always have.

Bloggers Club Announces Breitbart Scholarship and Memorial Website

March 16, 2012 at 1:27 pm (Ali Akbar, Amy Kremer, Andrew Breitbart, Anthony Weiner, Blog Bash, Breitbart Scholarship Fund, CPAC, National Bloggers Club, Washington)

I urge all of you to consider checking out the memorial website…

Washington, DC:

The National Bloggers Club, a new non-profit providing a loose association for free market bloggers, has officially announced a grant program for young citizen journalists in honor of Andrew Breitbart’s legacy, the Breitbart Scholarship Fund. The fund has been set up in conjunction with a website, RememberBreitbart.com, dedicated to showcasing Andrew’s fans and showcase his work.

Visitors of the website will be able to donate to the fund, apply for grants and submit their own videos to a library of fans memorializing Breitbart.

Prior to his death, Breitbart attended a National Bloggers Club event, Blog Bash at CPAC. There he was given the “Changing the Narrative” award for his work exposing the Anthony Weiner Twitter scandal. Shortly after, Breitbart had indicated he would join the Board of Directors for the National Bloggers Club.

This wasn’t Breitbart’s first Blog Bash event. He had been a supporter for over 2 years.
“Not in a million years did I ever imagine that we would lose Andrew just weeks after I handed him the only award — from what I’m told — that he would receive recognizing his work. I knew we wanted to do something special to honor this man and make him a legacy, so when I was approached about having the National Bloggers Club ‘do something’ in Andrew’s memory, we jumped.” said National Bloggers Club President Ali A. Akbar.

In the weeks following his passing bloggers and activists have held memorial events across the country including Washington, DC, New York, Michigan and Texas “to honor his legacy and renew the commitment to fight the good fight” according to Tea Party Express Chairman and National Bloggers Club Advisory Board Member Amy Kremer.

Anyone interested in making a donation to the Breitbart Scholarship Fund can go to http://www.RememberBreitbart.com. All grants will be reviewed by a board overseen by Andrew’s friends, former colleagues and other bloggers.

Company That Received Billions From Stimulus Also Receives Annual State Tax Break of $2 Million

February 13, 2012 at 11:53 pm (ARRA, CH2M Hill, Cleanup, Department of Energy, DOE, Economy, Jobs, Layoffs, Nuclear, Richland, Stimulus, Washington)

In November, Accuracy in Media released my report regarding a company known as CH2M Hill, an engineering firm that claimed nearly $2 billion in stimulus awards.  Most of their work concentrated on one division – the CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company (CHPRC) – which operated one of the world’s largest environmental cleanup projects—the Central Plateau on the Hanford Nuclear Site in Richland, Washington.

New information shows that despite their claims, the Energy Department says the company actually received $1.38 billion from the stimulus, but had an additional $3.1 billion in annual budget appropriations.  Furthermore, they are receiving $2 million in state tax breaks annually, yet still laid off thousands of workers.

The Blaze reported:

new investigative report released by Accuracy in Media Wednesday, reveals that CH2M HILL, a Colorado-based consulting, engineering and construction firm, received nearly $2 Billion in stimulus funding despite a history of kickbacks, poor conduct and contaminating their own workers. While they are not in danger of suffering the same bankruptcy plight as Solyndra, CH2M has laid-off thousands of workers since receiving taxpayer stimulus. And like Solyndra, CH2M has donated thousands in campaigns finances to Democrats.

In response to an FOI request for information, the Department of Energy reported that “CHPRC competed for and was awarded a $4.515 B contract on June 19, 2008, to complete select cleanup work at the Hanford Site.”  That award form can be seen here:

Contracts CPRC Contract Conformed Contract RL14788-Section A(function() { var scribd = document.createElement(“script”); scribd.type = “text/javascript”; scribd.async = true; scribd.src = “http://www.scribd.com/javascripts/embed_code/inject.js”; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(“script”)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(scribd, s); })();

In a letter dated January 30th, 2012, the DOE explains that “…the $4.5 billion amount is for the total original contract value. The $1.38 billion is the amount of American Recovery and Investment Act (ARRA) funds applied to the contract.  The difference between $4.5 billion and $1.38 billion is funded by normal annual budget appropriations (non-ARRA).

So why the discrepancy between the company’s report of $1.9 billion in stimulus funding and the DOE’s claim of $1.38 billion? More importantly, why is a company operating a nuclear cleanup site to the tune of $4.5 billion taking advantage of a $2 million state tax break for research and development?

From a Seattle Times editorial:

HUNDREDS of Washington companies engaged in research and development in technology-related fields pay a reduced business-and-occupation tax. This break was designed to create a healthy R&D climate in our state and spur companies to maturity.
…the Department of Revenue says three companies — Microsoft, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which is operated by Battelle, and CH2M Hill — get up to a $2 million tax break every year. These companies do impressive work in the Northwest. But these firms do not really need state assistance.

By comparison, titans such as Google and Yahoo! received less than $300,000 in business-and-occupation tax forgiveness annually.

What R&D is a nuclear cleanup firm performing exactly?

Insurers Required to Report on Global Warming Predictions

February 2, 2012 at 11:28 am (California, Climate Change, Disaster, Global Warming, Insurance, Insurers, New York, Washington)

Thank goodness, seeing as a recent report shows that the planet hasn’t warmed in 15 years.

From the New York Times via the Times Union:

Insurance commissioners in New York, California, and Washington state will require that companies disclose how they intend to respond to the risks their businesses and customers face from increasingly severe storms and wildfires, rising sea levels and other consequences of climate change, California’s commissioner said Wednesday.

Laughably, they single out the forward-looking skills of the Califronia insurance industry:

California, which has the ninth-largest economy in the world, has led the way on this push to make a traditionally backward-looking industry anticipate and respond to the business liability presented by a changing climate. These new state regulations will focus attention on the insurance industry’s role in mediating the country’s response to climate change.

And to punctuate that point:

“Global warming presents unique risks, and it is vital that our insurance industry adequately account for the impacts of climate change,” Benjamin M. Lawsky, superintendent of New York’s Department of Financial Services, whose portfolio includes insurers, said in a statement. “We look forward to working with the industry to address these important and growing risks.”

And nothing quite says adequately accounting for the future and forward-thinking than trying to predict the impact of something that hasn’t happened in 15 years – an assessment reported by the East Anglia Climatic Research Unit (yes, Climategate University).

Via the Daily Mail (h/t Yid):

The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.

The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.

Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.

Way to be on top of things, insurers.  While you’re at it, could you please provide detailed reports of a possible outbreak of the Bubonic plague, or the threat of stampeding mastodons?  We really need to get on top of that.
