DNC Opening Video: "Government is the Only Thing We All belong To"
And all these years we were under the impression that the government belonged to the people. Not so according to the opening video at the Democrat National Convention, which tells viewers that “government is the only thing we all belong to”.
The party that handed us the phrase “You didn’t build that” and “We make it possible”, now says we all belong to government. Only mildly creepy.
The video prompted Mitt Romney to immediately tweet in response – “We don’t belong to the government, the government belongs to us”.
NY GOP Chairman Calls on Silver to Resign Over Repeated Sexual Harassment Coverups
It’s a scandal that Democrats don’t want you to know about here in New York state – Gropergate. So much so, that they’ve taken to seating New York delegates at the convention in practically another zip code.
Today New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox called on Sheldon Silver to step down as Speaker of the Assembly Following Sex Abuse Cover-up Revelations:
“Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver claims his actions handling the cover-up of a hush-money payout to quell sexual abuse allegations against Democrat Assemblyman Vito Lopez were ‘legal and ethical.’
“A judge appointed special prosecutor will determine if criminal liability attaches to actions approved by the Speaker, but we don’t need a special prosecutor to rule on the ethics of this transaction.
“Faced with a member of his caucus who had on multiple occasions sexually harassed female staff members, Speaker Silver neglected to refer the matter to the Assembly Ethics Committee and instead took an active role in covering up the abuse, including paying over $100,000 of taxpayer money to the victim, who did not request confidentiality.
“Silver’s actions were unethical and wholly unbecoming of a member of the New York State Assembly, let alone its Speaker.
“Sheldon Silver’s history of covering up sex abuse in the Democratic Assembly caucus includes a $500,000 settlement in 2004 for sexual misconduct by Silver’s Chief Counsel and an $80,000 settlement in 1992 for similar charges against another Democratic Assemblyman.
“As Speaker, Sheldon Silver has allowed a culture of abuse to permeate the Democratic Assembly caucus and has demonstrated a manifest disregard for the wellbeing and safety of female Assembly staff members.
“Additionally, the Speaker’s use of public money to settle these claims is questionable at best, and may in and of itself be illegal.
“Enough is enough. The line must be drawn here. For the sake of female officials and staffers in the Assembly – and indeed for the sake of all New Yorkers – Sheldon Silver must step down as Speaker of the New York State Assembly.”
Democrats Drop God From Their Official Party Platform
The shocking part here is that they ever actually had God in the platform to begin with.
Guess what? God’s name has been removed from the Democratic National Committee platform.
This is the paragraph that was in the 2008 platform:
“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”
Now the words “God-given” have been removed. The paragraph has been restructured to say this:
“We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”
I suppose it would be difficult to include God in a platform that also “opposes any effort” to stop abortion.
Democrats at the 2012 Democratic National Convention are set to approve a platform today that is unambiguously pro-abortion and opposes any effort whatsoever to stop any abortions. The platform also calls on forcing Americans to pay for abortions at taxpayer expense.
The platform Democrats will approve rejects efforts to stop forcing taxpayers to fund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business and supports the Obama HHS mandate that forces religious groups to pay for and refer women for abortion-causing drugs under Obamacare.
Here is an excerpt of the exact wording on their abortion stance:
The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.
And so it is… Democrats are waging a War on God, Catholics, women, and children.
Cox to Miner: Apologize For Incendiary Remarks
New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox today released the following statement:
“Syracuse Mayor and state Democratic co-chair Stephanie Miner’s divisive attack on Republicans yesterday, calling the GOP ‘a party of hatred that wraps up their hatred in clever 30-second sound bites,’ is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated, especially considering the circumstances.”
Miner’s harsh attack on Republicans follows the recent sexual harassment settlement scandal involving Democrats Vito Lopez and Sheldon Silver.
“State Chair Stephanie Miner should apologize for her hateful and unfounded attack on Republicans. There is no room for that kind of language in the political arena.”
“On the other hand, Governor Cuomo has demonstrated a willingness to work with senate Republicans resulting in steps towards growth for New York including cutting the state’s budget, creating a new pension tier and championing fiscal reforms. We call on the Governor to repudiate this hateful and embarrassing rhetoric.”
Long: Gillibrand Needs to Tell Speaker Silver to Step Aside in Light of "Gropergate" Investigation
A whole new level of hypocrisy and dysfunction, that’s the state things have gone to in Albany where top Democrats pay taxpayer dollars in hush money to silence victims of sexual harassment. But where is Senator Gillibrand, America’s number one cheerleader for women’s rights?
U.S. Senate candidate Wendy Long said, “As New York Democrats rally in Charlotte and attempt to distract attention from jobs and the economy with talk of a phony ‘war on women,’ they turn their back on systematic and government-sanctioned sexual harassment back here in New York. It’s time for Senator Gillibrand, self-anointed protector of women’s rights, to get ‘off the side lines’ and call on Speaker Silver to step aside while investigations by JCOPE and Staten Island District Attorney Donovan proceed.”
Gillibrand, who only belatedly called for Lopez’s resignation, has worked fanatically to position herself as an advocate for women’s rights, even claiming that her campaign front, Off the Sidelines, assists Republicans. But when it comes to standing up for victims of sexual harassment and bucking her party, she has lost her voice.
In her 2006 race for Congress, Gillibrand urged then Congressman Sweeney to join her in calling for the resignation of Speaker Dennis Hastert in the wake of his negligence in handling the information provided to his office about Congressman Foley’s interaction with young Congressional pages.
“Democrats are scurrying like rats off a sinking ship to distance themselves from Lopez’s predatory behavior, but equally disturbing is the good old boy network that attempted to sweep ‘Gropergate’ under the rug and use taxpayer dollars to silence victims. New Yorkers deserve to know the truth, and Senator Gillibrand should call on the Speaker to step aside from his leadership post to assure a swift and complete investigation of the matter,” added Long.
Assembly Candidate Goes With ‘Call Me Maybe’ Parody Video
Yikes. Arthur Fonzarelli thinks that parodies of Call Me Maybe have jumped the shark.
Adam Bermudez is a one-time reporter turned Democrat operative who is running to oust troubled Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera. You may remember Rivera from our earlier coverage of her secret Facebook page with steamy entries regarding a government boy toy whom she hired.
While Rivera certainly has her issues, Bermudez isn’t considered a serious challenger for her seat. But that didn’t stop Bermudez from going all out to earn the coveted teenage girl vote, releasing a video of himself singing a parody of the hit song, Call Me Maybe.
As voters head to the polls on September 13th, only a few days away, even if Mr. Bermudez’s video were to go viral, the race is still likely to be a two candidate affair between Ms. Rivera and businessman Mark Gjonaj, a heavy fundraiser who is investing his campaign war chest into extensive GOTV and advertising efforts. Also in the race is Irene Estrada-Rukaj.
“All the other candidates, they think I’m crazy,” Mr. Bermudez astutely observers at one point in the song. “Vote for me maybe.”
So here is the video which is sure to light up hearts across the nation and demonstrate once again why there is never a dull moment in New York politics.
Matt Doheny Criticizes Bill Owens for Imaginary Accomplishments
In Bill Owens’ new commercial, the Democrat says that “instead of creating stupid regulations, let’s create some jobs.”
“I totally agree – which is why I wish my opponent’s actions actually matched his words,” said Matt Doheny, the Republican, Conservative and the Independence parties’ candidate in the 21stCongressional District. “The truth is this: Our current congressman has supported several ‘stupid’ regulations pushed by President Obama’s administration – and now there are 5,000 more people out of work in his district than there were when my opponent first went to Washington.”
In his commercial, Owens cites the following “stupid” regulations:
· Limiting dust on farms: But according to Bloomberg, the “EPA had never proposed tightening rules on farm dust, and the agency said lawmakers were raising concerns based on a myth about the rulemaking.” [10/17/11]
· Preventing teens from working on the family farm: The Department of Labor said its decision to withdraw the proposed rule “was made in response to thousands of comments expressing concerns about the effect of the proposed rules on small family-owned farms.” [04/26/12]
· Classifying spilled milk as an oil spill: The Watertown Daily Times said the EPA first proposed exempting bulk milk tanks in January 2009 – 11 months before Owens took office. [06/20/10]
“My opponent was smart not to take credit in his commercial for ending any of these ‘stupid’ rules,” said Doheny. “One was imaginary. One prompted a collective outcry. And the third was already being settled before he took office.”
Doheny continued: “You may not see it in a commercial, but our congressman has supported several ‘stupid’ Obama administration regulations that would surely lead to job losses.”
Those include:
· Cement: Owens voted twice against bipartisan legislation that would have delayed implementation of EPA rules against cement manufacturers that would have been cost-prohibitive or “effectively impossible to meet,” prompting layoffs or jobs moving overseas. [Roll Call #764, 10/6/11]
· Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act: After Boeing made a $2 billion investment in South Carolina and created more than 2,000 jobs, the National Labor Relations Board tried to block the company from moving a production line there and adding more jobs. Owens voted against this bipartisan bill, which would have stopped the NLRB’s legal complaint from proceeding. [Roll Call #711, 9/15/11]
· TRAIN Act: Owens voted against the bipartisan Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation (TRAIN) Act, which would delay implementation of new EPA standards for utilities. The bill was in response to the Obama administration’s push for environmental standards that would have threatened the jobs at more than 1,000 power plants and caused customers to pay up to 24 percent more for their electricity. · Project labor agreements: President Obama pushes project labor agreements for all federal construction work. Bill Owens has defended this anti-competitive, costly practice by voting four times against House efforts to either prohibit PLAs as a requirement for federal construction projects or to give contractors the option. (Roll Call #302, 5/31/12; Roll Call #267,5/17/12; Roll Call #413, 6/13/11; Roll Call #126, 2/19/11)
· Quickie elections: With the Owens supported “card check” legislation stalled in Congress, the Obama administration proposed changing the rules for union elections – dramatically shortening the time employers would have to prepare for employee unionization. This would create uncertainty for every private-sector employers and could increase labor costs. Owens voted against the bipartisan Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act, which would have reined in the Obama administration’s attempt to impose drastic changes to the workplace. · BULB Act: Owens voted against the bipartisan Better Use of Lightbulbs Act, which would have allowed the sale of inexpensive incandescent light bulbs to continue. Instead, he voted to uphold new standards that will push Americans to use costlier fluorescent bulbs, the majority of which are manufactured in China. [Roll Call #563, 7/12/11]
· REINS Act: Owens voted against the bipartisan Regulations From the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act, which would have required Congress to take an up-or-down vote on major regulations proposed by the administration. It would make members more accountable, and provide a check-and-balance to bureaucratic overreach. [Roll Call #901, 12/7/11]
Democrat Who Compared Ryan to Nazis Abruptly Leaves DNC for "Root Canal"
Apparently this is real.
California Democrat John Burton, who has recently come under fire for comparing Republicans in general, and Paul Ryan in particular, to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels, has left the building at the Democrat National Convention.
Literally.
Just How Embarrassed Are Democrats of Their New York Delegates? Check Out This Seating Arrangement
Jazz Shaw of Hot Air recently wrote a piece about the corruption being unveiled in New York politics these past few weeks titled, “Something Rotten in New York”. In it, Shaw writes about the taxpayer funded cover up of sexual assault claims made against one of Brooklyn’s most powerful Democrat politicians. A payment to sweep sexual assault allegations under the rug to avoid an ethics inquiry was authorized by New York State Assembly Leader Sheldon Silver.
Last week we wrote:
… what was once praised as a swift response, has been a proven case of pandering to members of government with a penchant for sexual misconduct. In a stunning revelation, the New York Times reports that Silver attempted to keep previous Lopez harassment issues swept under the rug, authorizing a secret payment to two other victims for an eye-popping $103,080.
Sadly, this wasn’t the first time that Silver had paid a victim of sexual harassment and/or assault taxpayer funded hush money.
In 2003, Silver was criticized for a slow response to a case involving his former aide, J. Michael Boxley, who was accused of rape and later pled guilty to sexual misconduct. Three years later, the Assembly agreed to pay $500,000 of taxpayer money to settle the case.
How badly must it undermine the Democrats entire mantra of Republicans waging a “War on Women” when one of New York’s most powerful politicians has been caught – twice – paying women who have been sexually assaulted to keep quiet?
So indeed, something does smell rotten in New York. Up here in these parts, we just call it politics as usual. When you live so closely to the sewage waste plant that is New York politics, you become fatigued of the stench.
Not so for the national scene however.
Silver you see, is one of the members of New York’s delegates set to appear at the Democrat National Convention this week, where he will once again have the honor of announcing that they are endorsing Barack Obama for president during the Democratic convention.
At the DNC, amongst people that aren’t used to such a level of rancid politics, Sheldon Silver’s presence with the New York delegation has created some controversy. Silver has been pressured to cede his role to somebody else at the convention, to no avail.
But just in case you weren’t clear on just how awful the stench is coming from New York, the faction that ranks behind only California in size, which includes powerful Democrat Chuck Schumer, and Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand, who has been targeted for a possible presidential run in 2016, has been placed about as far away from the podium as humanly possible.

It’s far worse a location than the Republicans had at the Tampa Bay Times Forum last week, even though they’re just about as low on the party totem pole as the Democrats are here in Charlotte.

Democrats who have made it inside to see their seating have been overheard grousing about their poor placement, especially considering how much campaign cash Obama has raised in NYC.
